X2 for battery cables and connection check first. Big blocks are known for "heat soak", or hard start when hot - but small blocks normally don't have that problem on start up with engine warm. You can do a voltage check or take it to AutoZone for a free check of your starting/charging system. Vapor lock is also a potential problem on any engine - a carburetor spacer may help - but I don't like them because they change the geometry of the carb linkage/air tube, etc.
