Notched the frame...a little
Hey guys, I was looking for some opinions on the structural integrity of notching the frame for header clearance. My plan for the truck is a weekend cruiser and the occasional smokey burnout. Of coarse I will have to take it down the track at least three... times to establish talking points. I am leaving the suspension stock with the exception of the lowering shocks and springs now on the truck from cpp. Sometime in the future, I may add disc brakes as well. Should I maybe box weld in some steel where I notched the frame for the intended purpose of the truck as stated? The converter is questionable once I get the truck running, so a engine pull could be in the future. I am still a long way from firing her up. Thanks, Bill

cool a olds, i am so glad some one put something in besides a small block chevy. grate job .
i have been wanting a buick nail head in one of mine . keep up the good work.

My K20 had the frame notched to clear the headers and I never saw an issue with it.

No problems there. 455's have some grunt. My old roomate had one in a 71 (or 72?) Cutlass. Mild compression & decent cam, it pulled hard.

Update.
After hours of work, ( as an amateur) I finally have the outer floors, lower fenders, rockers and cab corners replaced on my 65 fleet-side short bed. No formal training, just bought a wielder read some information and tore into it. I would like to thank everyone on this site that has expressed their knowledge and encouragement for others. I love the pictures that everyone posts and I know it gives me the motivation to try things I had never done. I am still not decided exactly the direction I am taking this build. I knew that I personally couldn't live with rusted out floors and rockers. I know I want a Flat paint, or even thought about a wrap, but I don't think a wrap will last for the long run. Thanks again. |

Very cool! I had to trim the top portion of my frame, as well (running a Pontiac) to clear the header primaries.
