What do you all think? (1991 Chevrolet Crew Cab)
Well I really been wanting a 1/2 ton crew cab swb after seeing all of the threads of them on here. I came across this crew which is a 1991 Chevy with a 6.2 Diesel and he says it has 9x,xxx miles on it. I was wondering what you all thought about it. He said the lowest he would take is $1900.00.(Too much? Good price I'm not sure.) He says it is in pretty good shape and has no rust. Heres a video I got from him below and I would like to hear what you all think of it.

Not bad. Is there any market for the utility box to help recoup some money?

What are your plans for it? For a hauler to just drive as is or a cummins swap it would be a good one. Are they hard to find in your area? I would look for a ccsrw to do shortbed conversion. Or do it bagged on alcoas with the service bed still on it, that would be crazy.

Bruiser: I'm not sure about the value of the service box.
Meter swinger: I was thinking more like OJOE's crew. I am thinkin of getting all the 1/2 ton parts from my burb.

Maybe swap over the 350 from it to? Would the 6.2 be worth keeping you think?

Re: What do you all think? (1991 Chevrolet Crew Cab)
You mean 1 ton?
If the 6.2 runs well and is in decent shape then i'd say it definitely be worth keeping. |

I like mine. The diesel clatter is nice and the fuel economy is great.

The speedo is off on mine so I can't measure but it seems to be mid-teens easily in all-city driving.

How about power wise? Good or bad? I know nothing about 6.2's.

Re: What do you all think? (1991 Chevrolet Crew Cab)
It moves the truck really well, maybe better than the factory 305 did. It's nice to have one toy that doesn't need fuel every time I get it out.

BRUISER: You can say that again. Less I see the pump the happier my wallet and I are.
Stew_Magoo: There not that bad are they?

Re: What do you all think? (1991 Chevrolet Crew Cab)
It won't ever be a big HP diesel but you can add a turbo from a 6.5 that's pretty much a bolt-on. Honestly it runs so well I'm not planning to go to the trouble.

Re: What do you all think? (1991 Chevrolet Crew Cab)
Would you say it is near a stock 350? If so I would be fine with that.

Re: What do you all think? (1991 Chevrolet Crew Cab)
I'll take one over a 305 but it doesn't run like a 350 at all. It has enough torque to move with traffic and pass when needed but that's it. Its a trade-off for the mpg but if you like diesel clatter the 6.2 will grow on you.

Re: What do you all think? (1991 Chevrolet Crew Cab)
I believe my 1991 v3500 4x4 with a 6.2 runs better than my 2wd CCSB with a 350 TBI, more torque.
Also the 1991 one tons came with 4L80E's I love mine! I wouldn't trade it for a SBC. I'm actually planning on adding a 6.5 turbo setup. I am a 6.2 convert, I also have a 84 6.2 3/4 ton 4x4 Burb, and I'm picking up a 6.2 4x4 blazer soon. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: What do you all think? (1991 Chevrolet Crew Cab)
I guess I will drive it and see what I think about it. If its got decent power and good MPGs it would be worth keeping I think.
I was wondering if I I could run a regular Long bed with the cab and chassis rear end for a little while also? Will it bolt on and match up to the cab? Also will it clear the dual rear wheels?

Re: What do you all think? (1991 Chevrolet Crew Cab)
I think they are, but that's just me. I'm kind of a purist at heart, and a trucks should be used as trucks kind of guy. A nice looking dropped dually can still be used for it's intended purpose and look badass at the same time. A dropped suburban can look bad ass and be just as useful as when stock. While a dropped cc half ton may look cool, it's useless as a truck. If some one wants a Chevy sedan, they should buy a Caprice. |

Re: What do you all think? (1991 Chevrolet Crew Cab)
I was considering a diesel myself, but now diesel costs 30% more than gasoline here in Tucson, so I see no financial advantage now in owning a diesel.

So a 1/2 ton short bed isn't a truck? I pulled the wife's '66 short bed behind my 1/2 ton lowered CCSB with both beds fully loaded from Oklahoma to Alaska (over 4000 miles through mountains) with no problem. I certainly wouldn't do that with a caprice. Quote:
My 1991 one ton, 4x4, CCLB gets close to 20mpg, compare that to a gas engine (BBC or SBC) in the same truck it would be closer to 10mpg. So even if fuel cost is 30% higher consumption is 50% lower. The math still works in lighter vehicles also. Less weight=more mpg. My diesel Burb does great, it just sips the fuel. Over 20mpg. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: What do you all think? (1991 Chevrolet Crew Cab)
I'm not 100% sure but I think a dually long bed will bolt on. The length should be correct anyway, but possibly missing some of the mounts.

Re: What do you all think? (1991 Chevrolet Crew Cab)
If the comparison is carbureted BBC or SBC vs. 6.2 diesel then diesel wins. Modern fuel injected SBC vs. 6.2 diesel, then SBC wins. All diesel drivers I know get 17 mpg. city, where most of my driving is done. All fuel injected 1/2 tons I have owned got 15.5 - 18 mpg city.
