Spid Question

I found this truck for sale and the owner sent me pic of the spid. I see the code for "Manual Throttle" and my question is, by 1971 didn't all the trucks have an automatic choke on them? With that being said maybe a "Manual Throttle" was available because, depending on what you wanted to do with the truck, you may need it to stay revved up for sustained periods.

Maybe was that like a throttle lock? Didnt they have some type of cruise control option?

I like to call it poor man's cruise control. As explained it is a dash controlled cable that will maintain a set throttle position. I would use it like cruise (the speed would just go up and down depending on hills, wind etc.). Cool Option!

The manual throttle had nothing to do with the choke. For some reason i have seen quite a few manual throttles on blazers. And yes, it just held the throttle at a certain rpm.

My 72 4x4 has the manual throttle. Farmers used them because it turned feeding the livestock into a one man job. Set the throttle, put trans in low gear and throw hay bales as truck eased down the feed line.

They were also common on trucks that carried campers. It would be used to chearge up the battery(s) and/or to keep the coolant heated up if the owner added a second heater run off the engine cooling system. This truck looks like it may have been optioned for camper duty.

The option is discussed in my `71 owner's manual.

Its been family owned since 1973, and do not think it has seen much Camper Duty. Apparently it had been parked in a barn since 1982 and was taken out last spring where all the fluids were changed and the gas tank removed and cleaned. and it has been driven around daily since then. If I buy it i wanted to drive it home but because of the long sitting (even though its being daily driven ) I will have it shipped the 1200 miles to here.

I would think most anything that has a PTO should have one.

My wrecker of all things did not come with one but had one added when it was converted to a wrecker by that company. (truck was a cab/chassis from factory)
