Re: six lug rims whatcha got?

Good afternoon. Great looking truck! I also have those Jeep slots, did you have to put longer studs on? What lug nuts are you using? Mine only catch about 3/4 inch of thread. Thanks!

I am using 7/16” conical lug nuts. I think I get at least 3 or 4 turns of each lug nut, about the 3/4” you mention.
I recently upgraded to front disc brakes. The CPP kit I bought has longer 7/16” studs, which I was happy to see. So stud length on the front wheels is no longer any issue.

I have a box of 7/16” EXTENDED THREAD lug nuts. They have a conical design like the ones I currently use, but an extra long threaded area. To use them, I’ll need to enlarge the lug holes ever so slightly.

I’ll post pics once I get back to my home computer.

Re: six lug rims whatcha got?

Is there any alternative for center caps on the early 4wd rally's? I would rather not run any than those large centers.

I know you responded a while back, but are those plastic? How do you hold them on? Wouldn't the lug nuts crush the plastic when tightened? I'm assuming they are deep enough to clear the front center hub without removing the center emblem? (can't see the fronts well in pic) Thanks.

Re: six lug rims whatcha got?

A buddy of mine did a frame off restoration on a 66 C20 and went with factory 16" 8 lug alloy rims. They look great on the truck. Sorry for the lack of quality. Used screen caps but hopefully you get the idea.

Re: six lug rims whatcha got?

I went to a small swap meet last sunday and bought a set of 80's 4x4 rallys for $10 each. Guy said he had more at home. Don't know if I will use them, but for that price, I couldn't pass them up. HA.

Going old school with a twist

still need to spend a bazillion hours sanding and polishing. I'm thinking of polishing the outer lip and drop edge then aggressively blasting the dished area and the cone cover painting both a darker cast gray leaving the lips and the tri bar shiney--what do you think?

Re: six lug rims whatcha got?

Newfisher,
I have a set of those slots. They are from a 70's Wagoneer IIRC. The tri-bar and tower are Gorilla brand. I have a set of those on my classic car. Soooooo . . . . I want to know, Where did you get the cone cover? Aluminum or steel or stainless?

The cone covers are from the 80's and are aluminum. You used to be able to order them through the wheel suppliers like Gorrilla Industries. They stopped appearing in the books a few years ago, maybe someone has some old stock? I found these ata buddies place and tried to find a few more sets to do this to the 5 slots, kind of like a modern day version and take a few sets to the swap meet, but I haven't had any luck finding the cones.

Re: six lug rims whatcha got?

Mixing old school and modern center caps. Here's an idea.

The Chevy Colorado with a factory steel wheel uses a center cap that presses onto the 6 lug nuts. Here's a pic of a Colorado wheel without the cap and a cap picture I stole off of eBay. It might look weird on a slot, but then again it might look good. I have not tried it to see.

Correction here about my earlier post. These Colorado wheels have the correct bolt pattern but will NOT bolt on to a factory front drum because they have too much back spacing. You will need spacers to make them work. They bolt onto the back drums just fine.
