Re: 67' C10 Build V8 Conversion & 700r4 trans

67c10rustbuket, hey thanks, gotta like that big brown truck, I am spending a few hours a day.

Dingfodgy, I think I have enough to keep busy here

Hey zicc1835, Let me know how that trans works out, any idea who the original trans builder was.

I need to buy my 700r4 Trans. still, I have been looking at Phoenix Transmission Products.

I hope this will not be a hang up time wise.

I have some Centerline Rims coming, They are built to order and will take 3 weeks to build.

I just ordered them a couple of days ago, but the wheels are not as critical as the transmission is, as the wheels/tires can be put on at the very end.

I put a post asking who everyone liked as far as a Trans rebuilder for the 700r4, a few weeks ago,
No one replied.

I did not know if i was going to keep this post going or not, there are a couple people watching so I will keep spending the extra time to take pictures and post them.

Re: 67' C10 Build V8 Conversion & 700r4 trans

Just bought this Trans hope it's a Great Trans/Converter with absolutely NO problems.

Phoenix Transmission Products

I read about them in one of the truck magazine's, the article said how durable and well built their transmissions are, and they build their own converters, and that their converter's were also very robust, and that they were built different, to be very durable.

They said I should have it in Three weeks.

I dont think i have enough work to keep me busy for that long.

I may have to buy the American Auto Wire, Wire Harness, to keep me busy.

Trans No. & specs. for 700r4 Trans.

#PT700R4SS
Our street/strip version features over 40 performance and durability upgrades and modifications. These include: high load capacity sprags, high energy friction and band, increased pump volume and pressure, and more to provide the highest level of performance and economy possible. Re: 67' C10 Build V8 Conversion & 700r4 trans

In talking to Scott at Phoenix Transmissions,

he said all that is needed as far as power to the 700r4 trans is a 12V supply for the Lockup Converter, & a Good Ground.

He said the Ground could be a good quality, Battery Ground cable, From trans case to Frame.

Warranty: is 3year 50K miles, warranty,

and the Warranty does not start until the trans is mounted in the vehicle and running, and that can be down the road 1-3 years or more after the trans is received, just email the warranty card to them and warranty starts from that point on.

To me the BEST WARRANTY is the one you never have to use.

I have painted quite a few firewalls black when I had too but they always look better body color, maybe you could touch yours up if you think it is a bit to rough.

Re: 67' C10 Build V8 Conversion & 700r4 trans

Didn't get anything done this weekend it's my & my daughter's birthday, we both have the same birthday.

We are actually 2 hours apart, she was born at 12:20p.m. & I was at 2:20p.m., & 30 years.

She came to visit from collage.

I believe that timing is everything.

I will start again Monday.

Re: 67' C10 Build V8 Conversion & 700r4 trans

Thanks!! Mud.man.rj

We had a great weekend.

As for this week I need to clean the rest of the frame, and get it prepped for a frame on paint.

I need to,

1. Pick up some Chevy Original Color Paint for the Firewall.

2. Get the Frame ready for the KBS Coating, after the firewall is painted.

Later this week or next week I should be ready to pick up the powder painted parts for re-assembly of the front end.

Yep, just chiseled mine out last week, didnt seem to agree with my 4L60E. I think it is quicker to ask a Q seperately than in a build unless you have 50 people watching you who have been there, I havent checked on you in a while. nice progress

Re: 67' C10 Build V8 Conversion & 700r4 trans

Good!!
Glad you guy's confirmed that the cross member needed to come off.

I did not want to bolt that thing back on anyway.

But the surprising thing is, with the engine out, and that Trans cross member out, the frame is fairly flexible.

I will clean the frame further back from the Manual Trans cross member tomorrow.

Re: 67' C10 Build V8 Conversion & 700r4 trans

Man you have more people watching this than I have on mine, I'll try to help. lol.. Yes they make the firewall grommet for the clutch linkage in the firewall but I forget who sells it, but I changed my mind to an auto so I never got one, as you are, so why do you need it with an auto? you just want the plug for the hole then right? that I do not know.

I think the frame is just a little flimsy because the front susp/eng xmember is out, It is the main structure for the front.

While im thinking about it, before you put the V8 in there you need to move the motor mount stands forward one hole, unless you like pulling the engine to get to your distributor.

Re: 67' C10 Build V8 Conversion & 700r4 trans

Thanks to everyone that reply'ed.

Hey 67c10rustbucket,

I wanted a blank rubber plug to fill the clutch hole, now that I am going to Automatic, I don't want a hole in the firewall.

In reading some where on this site it said that the Frame to motor mount, motor stands are different, between the I6 and V8, and Thanks for the note about moving the frame Motor stand to the front hole locations.

Frame being flimsy, it is very flimsy, But once I have the three cross members back in (engine included) it should stiffen things up a bit.

Re: 67' C10 Build V8 Conversion & 700r4 trans

Today, I sanded the firewall with scotch brite, & degreased it with a Wax & Grease remover.

I also blew out the Fresh Air Vent, I thought that I cleaned it out pretty well before, I took out about 4 handfuls of leaves and decayed garbage out of each side.

But when I blew 120psi into the fresh air vent it blew out A LOT MORE crap, leave tree seeds, pine needles, what looked like Mudd, probably decayed garbage.

If it is warm enough tomorrow, i will mask & Prime the firewall. I may even paint it.

I received the KBS Frame coating kit in Satin Black today.

So i am ready to finish cleaning the frame all the way back, I am also going to use it on the rear end.

Ok side note,

I have Two Porsche 914's a 1971' Porsche 914, that I has not had much attention.

It has the stock Haha 80h.p. engine, I have been thinking that a Chevy 4.3L V6 230h.p. 275ftlbs of torque would be a great addition to this 1900 lbs. car.

Maybe a summer project, after the 67' pickup is finished

Re: 67' C10 Build V8 Conversion & 700r4 trans

Just kidding about the paint gun, my wife doesn't care. although, I could paint her some thicker eye lashes, maybe some thicker eye brows, maybe a unibrow, ok now she may be a little pist about the uni-brow comment.

The gun was $100.00, It is not a Cadillac/high end gun, but is considerably better than harbor freight, it has a very nice (finer) adjustment, the finer adjustment makes it easy to paint with out getting any runs. It is a much finer spray than you would get out of a rattle can.

Cover fit on & came off well, a nice gun for the price.

It was also easy to take apart & clean.

The paint i was using is a very easy to use & spray on, it makes the amature look like a professional.

It is a three part enamel with a hardner

First thing i said after i finished was, "Wow!! Did i do that!!.
