Panel truck repair panels same as truck?

I had asked this while back and got mixed replys.Do all the truck repair panels match those of a panel truck.I was told there is differance around whell openings.Panel truck had small body grove going aroun the opening and was told truck don't. On mine it has it half way around other half is covered in bondo where 1/128tha$$ bodyman did work, yea hes that far from 1/2a$$.
Im working on cutting floor pans now ,then the rockers and after I get new ones in I'll be looking to start the lower quarters next and figure getting head start on locating parts can't hurt.

Did you talk to Wes at Classic Heartbeat? He's a board vendor and has a very good handle on whats what with panels and burbs.

Re: Panel truck repair panels same as truck?

Some but not all truck parts will work on a panel, the wheel well opening on a panel is the same as a 67 only truck, short box trucks and Blazers, as of yet, no one makes any patch panel for the left side of a burb/panel so you have to get creative..
I had a customers burb in for rust repair and you can see what it took to fix the drivers side: 1 Blazer quarter patch, 2 rocker panels, a section of pickup bed side, a truck wheel wheel and a burb/panel lower rear quarter replacement panel.
The Blazer quarter had to be cut in half, using the front half by the door opening and the rear half at the lower wheel well, in between was the pickup bed side. you can see where the two rockers were spliced.

Re: Panel truck repair panels same as truck?

LIvrat let me ask question. The lower panel is two pieces. Why wouldn't a full panel work or is it just to far off. I know wheels are differant. Or couldn't you have made one out of solid piece of metal. Im asking because I have same problem on my panel.

Re: Panel truck repair panels same as truck?

Chris, I am not quite clear on what you are asking, If you are refering to the lower 3 inches from the door to the wheel well, it is two pieces as one was not long enough, the lower rocker is one full one and a piece of a second one.
