Re: 700R4 replacing 3 speed

Yes the 700R4 will bolt up just fine. I believe the biggest issue you will have is fabricating a TV cable bracket for your carb setup, and getting it adjusted correctly. I know there are others here that have the 700R4 behind I6's, but it seems to me they are using other than stock intakes and carbs.

Re: 700R4 replacing 3 speed

Just a little food for thought. Here is a carb mod for the 700R4 TV cable. I found this searching online a while back. Something like this should work pretty nice for you guys. I have yet to see anyone that makes one for those carbs. I definitely see a market for it...

Both can be built to withstand stuff. Keep in mind the 2004R was stock behind the 87 GNX, so it can take it (or at least be built to take it). I personally like the idear of the 2004R - had one in a MOnte SS and it was a great trans.

Re: 700R4 replacing 3 speed

Has anyone adapted the 700r4 to the stock 3 speed manual column shifter linkage?
I have a '63 that originaly had a 230/3spd and is now 283/3spd. I'd like to keep the stock column.
