Crate engine?

The GMPP 350/290hp crate engine does not have intake or carb on it, how is the 290 hp determined with so many options of intakes and carbs. All the other engines are complete so hp should be close to accurate.Apoligize in advance if this is a "no brainer".

Re: Crate engine?

Not sure but I worry more about torque than hp. You can have all the hp in the world and little torque to the wheels means no speed.

Re: Crate engine?

Probably just a simple aluminum dual-plane manifold with a 600-650 cfm holley or similar carb will do the trick.

Re: Crate engine?

I had one with an RPM intake and a 650 VS, and it was every bit of 300hp with headers, flows, Blueprinted HEI, etc. (probably more) They like to run about 16 BTDC and hit a decent 'lick.

I'm sure GMPP sets them up with a similar intake, headers and so on to get the 290Hp rating. Worth the money, just watch the warranty. The warranty is no good unless installed by an ASE cetrified mechanic at a GM shop as I understand it.

Someone chime in if I'm incorrect on it. Just trying to help, not to discourage either way.

Re: Crate engine?

Thanks, sounds like the 290hp was initially tested{dyno}with a somewhat matching intake and carb for the rest of the build.
