need help with rear setup

I was looking for some guidance regarding the rear setup I am looking to go with in my truck. I have never been letdown yet on this site so this is the only place I turn to. I am building a 67 GMC 3/4 that I am converting to 1/2 ton. Long story short I am picking up an 83 or 84 chevy truck that was going to be scrapped and would like to use the rear out of it. It is a 5 lug 10 bolt with 4 leaf springs compared to my 8 lug 10 bolt with 9 leafs. Main question is will it fit with little modification? I know anything can be "made to fit" with a hammer, torch and a little aggression..
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Re: need help with rear setup

Rear leaf springs on your truck are 2 1/4" wide most likely while the square bodies are 2 1/2" so those won't work if that's the case.

You can re-weld spring perches and shock mounts and the rear should then bolt right in.

You can use power steering but will probably have to dimple the frame for clearance on your '67.

You can swap in the entire front crossmember for the matching 5 lug disk brakes.

Re: need help with rear setup

Thanks for the reply Mike. I was not aware of the difference in width of the rear springs so that will save some time on my end. Do you know of a setup for the rear leafs that will work? 67-72 truck I suppose I need to look for? Ultimately I am going to lower the truck between 4-6 in the rear. I already have 2 1/2 drop spindles for the front plus 1" lowering springs. Also factory power steering and brakes so I am good there too...just need to swap the master cylinder and add a proportioning valve for the front discs.
