700r tranny swap info needed

does anybody have an exact parts list of what is needed to swap from the 350 tranny to the 700r? also what year model of 700r is suggested?

I started colecting parts for my 700r4 conversion awhile ago, I'm adapting it to a 4wd so if your going to 2wd it might be abit different. I also have a 4 speed and a non tilt steering column. I have a auto tilt column which I'm going to use a cable shifter so that solves the shifting problem, Sorry I'm getting sidetracked the recomendation I have is to go with a 88 to 92 4l60
this is identical to the 700r4 but some of the internals are made with better
metal which is a bonus! The 700r4 before 1986 had a smaller spline count on the converter and a different valve body. The problem with the converter is their is not much aftermarket support so its easier to use the later version, The Later version 88-92 uses a aux valve body which solved alot of heat issues another bonus! Another thing to look for is a 4wd case is heavyduty and is identical to the 2wd besides the tailshaft and the extra beef. After 92 the 4l60 changed to 4l60e which is a whole new ball game. Its still a great transmission but is electronically shifted so that means more cashola!!. If your buying a used transmission beware because alot of people dont know the difference between 700r4,4l60 and 4l60e the names seem to get mixed up alot.

all you need is the tranny t. converter and new oil, to be safe you need to get a new tranny cooler. use the same cross member just move it back couple of in. same column and shift mec.and cut the drive shaft couple in. and dont forget the tv cable hook up to the carb

basically you need to make sure you have a th350 9 inch tailshaft(mainly found in older trucks) and it will swap right in ,need to move the crossmember a little bit...and then make sure you have the right gear in trans to match speedo......and maybe new cable for the t.v cable.......i did the opposite swap.... very easy swap

if you have the short 6inch tail shaft th350 youll need to get the driveline remade...

there is also a 12 inch tailshaft th350 but is rare trans ......

you can see that the 700r4 is 30" and the th350 9inch is 30"5/8 ,all so you can see that youll have to move the trans crossmember 3/4 "
