Re: 62 long box frame off

AZ street rod show Prescott , took a top 20 .. Man my mind is blown about how well the people are taking the truck.. I really never thought that it would draw much attention at all.. due to the flat paint and it being somewhat of a odd color combo.. Guess I was wrong

Good job on the truck! I am digging the paint! What bed liner did you use?

Re: 62 long box frame off

The liner is tinted with my paint .. raptor liner clear.. I plan in fact to do the under side the fenders as well this fall.. I painted them but am thinking this is a better way to go.. to prevent chips and what not..

Re: 62 long box frame off

Truck turned out great.

Did you build a custom tranny cross member, or use an off the shelf unit?

Got my engine and trans in finally and need to get a cross member in the back. The old one for the e-brake was right in the way of course, so it is out.

Thanks,
Brian

Re: 62 long box frame off

Steve,

Your truck is awesome. When I was a kid, I had to have a shortbed. But now as an old man, I prefer a longbed. To me they look good slightly dumped in the frontend. I also like the color you painted your truck. Is that a charcoal grey hot rod flatz? I am working on a 62 longbed and was wondering if you kept the torsion bar frontend. I have read that they ride smooth. I thought about keeping it and upgrading to disc brakes and a rebuild. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Bob

Re: 62 long box frame off

My truck is painted hot rod flatz gunsmoke grey .. as for torsion my truck was a fluke .. it never had torsion.. I am the third owner first was a prescott forest service and I second was the guy that bought it from the auction he had it for 3 months and I bought it from him. Numbers match no where is there any marks of removal of lower brackets etc..

Re: 62 long box frame off

Gunsmoke grey looks great on your truck. My truck was originally an inline six, 4 speed truck, later converted to sbc. I am going to run a sbc and 700R4 so I will be able to get rid of the 4 speed trans crossmember giving me a little more room. The stock torsion bar setup is sure busy. Thanks for the info. Have a great day.

Re: 62 long box frame off

I did not add the fuel injection.. I removed the TKO 600 trans and installed a heavily modified 4L80E. So i use a Bauman trans controller for that I am running a MSD 7730 power grid that controls ign timing, timing retards two steps gear change timing retard etc. and a NOS progressive launcher to keep both stages of fun in line. So it has several new electrical items but no EFI. The carb is a custom built AED 950 super mod . Out of the box carb it went 7.33 in the 1/8 working on swapping the 10 inch convertor out for a 9.5 as this one would only stall at 3500 I need 4400.. Pic is a 275 40 17 street tire vs the 295 45 17 drag radial .

Re: 62 long box frame off

Well its that time again.. Bought the Holley Dominator EFI system, will be dropping the comp ratio with new pistons and adding twin turbos.. Bottle has been fun but I am tired of filling it, and want it any time well I want it.. Gathering parts ... Truck has run great no complaints but want more fuel control and adding AC !!!!!!

Nothing huge power wise 1000-1050 hp range. Everything else drive train wise is more than up to the task. So thats the next step..

Re: 62 long box frame off

Sorry buddy but you can't saying "nothing huge power wise" and 1000+hp in the same sentence .

Looking forward to the EFI update, especially with a TT build. That's been on my roadmap to eventually build an efficient 350 that nets good MPG, but can also twist some power under boost. Looks like you're going more straight power route, but still awesome!
