New parts rig

I saw a local guy advertising parting out 2 '88 K5 Blazers so I went to look at them. Told him I was really looking for a tub becaus my '82 2wd is pretty rusty.
I am a GMC guy and have been thinking about ways to make mine a GMC, so I have been looking for Jimmy's with out much luck. As I was looking at his "Blazers", it dawned on me that: 1) they were actually '89's, and 2) one of them was a Jimmy!
The truck was pretty buried behind some other projects so I could hardly see the interior (but could see that it was gone), but I was satidfied that it was rust free. We struck a deal and he even offered to deliver it for me.
This is as delivered.

Re: New parts rig

Keep in mind that I could hardly see it when I looked at it, and it was delivered after dark, but he mentioned that he had thrown in some interior parts before loading it on his trailer.
This first picture was what I saw (but at night), and this was the first little nugget I found, a fairly nice dashpad with no cracks! Needs cleanup as it looks like it had a cover on it for some time.

Re: New parts rig

On Saturday I got my first good look at what I had bought (wasn't happy to wake up to it snowing!), and here are some other nuggets I found.

Practicly new 31x10.50 Toyo AT tires on decent shape factory wheels.

Very nice dash bezel that must have come stock with a double DIN(?) stereo because it is not cut for the detachable face stereo that is in there, and tight tilt coloumn with newer style wheel (with GMC horn button).

Re: New parts rig

More nuggets...

Serpentine belt set-up

The interior was mostly complete, except for the center console.
The seats, although dirty, look to be in good shape with no tears in them.
Even found the seatbelt ends that goe to the floor and they still stand up!
GM K5 floor mats that are nicer than the picture makes them out to be.

Truck was some sort of "limited Edition".

The SPID sheet has a GT4 followed by a G80 which is a 3.73 gear and a locker, or vice versa.

Re: New parts rig

Took a rag and a hose and cleaned the green growth off the passenger side body and wheels, and sprayed off the running board.
Some good parts to be off'd to help offset the cost of the parts rig.

Re: New parts rig

So a pretty good haul considering I set out to find a good tub and came home with that plus a GMC title (by the time I am done my 2wd will be an '89 Jimmy 2wd!), complete sheet metal with all power options that looks to be basicly straight (although the paint is a waste), an almost complete red interior, and a ton of good sellable parts that I won't need.

For some instant gratification, I took the grill off and replaced the horrible fitting aftermarket grill on my crew and replaced the crusty air cleaner with a decent looking one also.

Re: New parts rig

The "Limited Edition" keylock guards are .50 at WalMart. Not a stock thing by any means.

Decent looking old Jimmy, lots and lots of good stuff on it that's for certain.

OK!
I have seen OEM "key-gaurds" before, and I thought some were supposed to be desireable, but have never seen one in person.

Oh well, one less nugget!
