Dash Question?

Alright so i want to add gauges to my 64 but i dot want to fill up the underside of my dash with holes to install after market gauges, so i was wondering how difficult would it be to remove my original dash with the lights and add a dash that came with the gauges already in it?

Re: Dash Question?

Have to doing either a harness swap or modify the existing harness. The ammeter has to be wired, as does the temp sender...which are different from the dummy light's. The oil sending unit is easy...as all you have to do is plump the line in. Fuel guage will remain the same.

Re: Dash Question?

Except dont use an ammeter, use a voltmeter; MUCH safer!

Re: Dash Question?

I did this swap a while ago. Like mentioned, without swapping the harnesses you lose some of the gauges..like temp and batt. I didn't swap harnesses, just plugged the new cluster into the existing harness and hooked up the oil pressure line. Been working fine but I'd really like to find a way to wire up the temp sensor. Haven't had any trouble but always like to know what the engine temps are.

some useful info on the wiring harness and temp sender here

Unless I read something wrong, to replace the dash harness it cost $259 from M&H. Thats the main reason I haven't swapped harnesses and am hoping to wire the temp sensor up separately.

Re: Dash Question?

To remove the cluster you take out the 3 phillips screws, and remove all the knobs/rings from the switches, ignition...etc. then should wiggle out. just don't pry hard on it and check underneath to see where its catching.
