Angry I hate some previous owners because.....

I got the idea for this thread because of our new member's post:

Ok, so there's really only one big one. They gouged holes on the upper rear interior of the cab for 6x9 speakers. The speakers were hooked to a newer stereo head. No audio worked. The radio has since been moved to my father's F**d to replace his busted cd player.

Look in the very top corner and you can see one of the holes. The bench seat is something I got from a late 80's early 90's 1500 out of a junkyard. There were mid 90's bucket seats in when I bought the truck.

In that picture you can also see my "custom" gas tank sitting in on the passenger side floorboard. The original tank was all rusted to hell, so when I purchased the truck, the owner had a 2 gal can with a fuel line running into it. I upgraded to a larger can for the ride home. It was a designated non-smoking drive for obvious reasons. I've since bought a replacement in-cab tank.

Re: I hate some previous owner because.....

because....

They hacked up the wiring to install some stupid toggle blinker.
Just buy the right part. It'd been a lot less work.
Oh, and they threw away the emergency flasher and installed this stupid toggle in the hole where it says 'Pull'

Re: I hate some previous owner because.....

They cut a hole in the TOP of the dash for a speaker, and cut out most of the high hump tranny cover, which they siliconed a different one over the hole. And I think they used a ax to cut both. No problem I have since replaced both.

Duct tape is better than aluminum foil.........things people do to "hide" rust.

I could write a novel on my truck , begining with the brakes having the adjusters on the wrong sides so they actually would loosen instead of tighten... Or the floor shifter that had a 2 inch throw for all gears ...and the list would go on and on ....

For tossing out the ignition switch and just using the touch the wires together to get it to start method, then to run the electric fans, touch that wire to the ignition wires, nice, then wire would get hot. Love it

Re: I hate some previous owner because.....

Not only did they cut my doors for speakers but used the same hot wrench on the inside of the door to open it up more with a 6x4 hole to get the window mechanism out, I have picked up to xtra junk doors for free to repair with...

My '63 I actually have no complaints on but that's mainly because I'm only the 4th owner. My '71 was another story though.... Lot's of headscratching on that one.

You too, huh?
What is it with guys who like to drill holes? My driver's door has 9 drilled holes in it for all of the rear view mirrors the previous owner had.

Was that the precursor to Astro Ventilation?

. . .they screwed a piece of plywood down over the space saver so I was "screwed" on the side of the road (old Corolla).

Ugh...the PO mounted everything to the firewall (front and back), had at least two different sets of seats (other than the original bench) and seat belts - apparently he had to drill a new set of holes in the floor for each set of new seat belts, a gun rack and he used sheetmetal screws to mount his speaker boxes behind the seat.

Re: I hate some previous owner because.....

PO had apparently had a huge camper on my '62...drill all kinds of holes in the cab and roof. I like this big one, though.....

Put lots of dents in odd places, and the rust is unbelievable! I went to Wichita to get this truck, I can't believe how much more rust a truck up there has than an Oklahoma truck!

PO also rigged some "helper" leaf springs on the back, not quite as nice as the factory ones.

...for primering over what was probably a pretty nice patina of the original paint. Like others, I have the speaker hole cutouts in the doors to complain about and a crapload of toggle switches I've had to trace down. I think they were jerry rigged kill switches a.k.a. anti-theft.

Ah yes...I think i have welded shut like 20 drill holes in various places,SO FAR. I really loved the hackmaster clutch setup, somebody apparently didn't want to fix the hydraulic clutch on my 62,so they cut a hole in the floor and rigged up the z bar clutch linkage.

Re: I hate some previous owner because.....

Hmm.. List:

- Rattle-Can-o-flage paintjob + fish sticker (you can still see some of it in the sig pic) It was originally a white truck; 2nd owner got it in the lime green with astroturf roof.. (base coat in the can-o-flage); then let his kids go wild with a set of rattle-cans.. and an apparent sticker of a large-mouth-bass. lol

- 6 holes in either side of the body for what we assume would've been ladder racks

- 6 holes per driver-door for various mirrors over the years.. only 1 was on the truck when we got it.

- taking out stock seat to bolt wood and car-seats there instead.

- astro-turf roof - still needs to be removed for new rattle-can paintjob. (lol, i know)
It's not exactly a rust inhibitor either. <_<

- puttng a 283 intake on a 400 block. We thought it was the original block, because we couldn't see the numbers on the block itself; so, until we started the rebuild, we had no clue. So yes, we have a 400sbc with a 283 intake. Hopefully we'll fix that.. time & budget allowing).

- apparently driving by braille . There is a major dent/damage/attempted repair on every corner of this truck. Both front fenders, both rear fenders.. not to mention the hood. At least you can say, it survived.. we haven't really been down to the body-work so there's probably more 'fun' there.

unfortunately i can't blame the p/o for the rusted floor panels <_< lol
