55-57 roll pan w/ rear bumper

guys,
are any of you running a rear roll pan WITH your factory rear bumper ?
a guy around town has this set up and it looks great. but, he hasnt been to any shows here in a while so i can see exactly how he did his.
he cut holes in the roll pan enough for the factory bumper brackets to pass through.
i have my roll pan and was doing some measuring, and it looks like the lower edge of the hole i will need to cut on each side will come very close to the bottom of the roll pan. im afraid it will be too weak down there in that area.
just curious if anyone has this setup and can share some pics ?
thanks

I don't have any info on this but it seems like a good idea...

The area below the tailgate/behind the bumper always looked unfinished, too much space between everything...

Well I've got the roll pan and bumper now. When I get to the point of installing it this thread should prove informative.

We need pictures please, anyone ?

Leonard, very nice '57. Sorry to hear that you parted with it.

I realize that this original request was made some time ago and just resurrected today. I always thought, as many of you guys did as well, that the area between the bumper and box needed to be covered so I made my own rollpan/cover and adapted it to work on my '58. I'll try to attach as many pics as I can (may take several posts) and answer any questions that any of you may have.

Nice rides Maxumus and G&R's

@Fleet '66 what trailer hitch did you use?

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, "Where's the self-help section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Jimig1,

I don't recall for certian but think it was a Reese Class IV. A friend had it laying around and it was a little too wide to fit my frame rails so I shortend it on both sides to make it fit. Works great. Fits well for the application. Had to make sure it was low enough to clear the bumper but not too low and give room on the top to install the fold down license plate that lets me access the fuel tank filler. Turned out real clean IMO.

Re: 55-57 roll pan w/ rear bumper

I used a U-Haul #75133 for a Chevy Venture minivan.
I tucks in perfectly at the front edge of the bumper with 1/4" clearance.
