Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
Very impressive progress, your truck is coming along nicely. In my youth I always wanted to build a 6 cylinder engine with a 4 barrel and headers, but it never worked out that way. Triple carbs have always provided a better wow factor though. I wish I had your sheet metal skills. Keep up the good work!

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
Thanks,
One day I will having look as good as yours. I have been a mechanic in the Army for 22 yrs and just started to get into the body work. While I was in Germany I watched all the how to car shows and learned a little. I wish I were better. This was the first time I did a door skin. It came out ok but it is a 1/4 in off from the left door. How much does the door seal stick out from the sill plate on the bottom? The bottom door is knocked in a little because it was sticking way out. I need to do some more hammering and filling to get the door better. If I didn't have to replace the lower door I think it would have come out better. This is the hardest part of the build so far. Getting the doors right. ![]() Last edited by 62 Barnfind; 04-01-2012 at 11:08 AM. |

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
I think adding to the problem is the fact they didn't fit very well to begin with. Looking at a cab schematic showing how many pieces made up the door jamb (and the whole cab for that matter) it's amazing anything fit on these trucks. Too bad for restorers they didn't have today's level of laser guided robotic assembly when these were designed. I imagine when these were new it was all done by hand with manual clamps, and a buyer just had to hope his truck wasn't assembled on a Monday or Friday!

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
I just went out and removed the skin and re adjusted it. It is a little better. When I feill the weld line I will have to make the top body line also.

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.
I finally put on my front fenders. I thought I would have done this about a month ago. I had to do some adjusting to get it to line up right. Her is what I did.
