Black headlight bezels

I see some trucks with black in the headlight bezels. Like on the 79 and older. Is that factory or do people just paint them that way?

They were factory black on my 77 GMC.

i know it came it some trucks, i though about doing it earlier today.

On my old 77 dually they were unpainted, I spent about an hour and 5 dollars worth of paint on them.

some were grey, like in the 78 mine are
actually thought of that (painting the bezel black)putting the bush bar on yesterday
i think it would look cooler now

I think the black was a 73-74 thing

yep my 74 has them. My 75 does not

I agree.

I believe the 73-78 headlight bezels were originally painted like this:
73-74 = black
75-76 = argent silver
77-78 = dark argent (grey).


I think the larger bezels used on 79's (and some 80's with round headlights) continued to use the dark argent (grey) color as well.

I cant say for sure, my buddy has an all original 77 silverado, his is black. My base model 77 dually had the grey. Maybe its a trim level thing?

According to this brochure from http://brochures.slosh.com/index.shtml?1977ctv, all 77 headlight bezels are supposed to be "dark gray metallic"



This is from page 2 of the "Pickups" link on that site. Page 3 of the Blazer and page 2 of the Suburban ones list the same info about the headlight bezels.
