1949 Dually Question

I have Identified that my new 1948 Chevrolet Dually Truck is acutally a 1949 Chevrolet Dually truck.

As it was assembled in Australia but it is actually Canadian Built.

The Vin Number Is:

9114231151

Which I decode as:

9 = 1949
1 = Chevrolet
1 = 1 1/2 ton
4 = 161" wheelbase
2 = Cowl with windshield
31151 = 31,151 Truck Built in 1949

What do they mean by Cowl with windshield?

The choices are:

Chassis
1 = Flat face cowl
2 = Cowl with windshield
3 = Cab
4 = Pickup delivery
5 = Panel
6 = Suburban carryall
7 = Forward control delivery

In regards to Dually parts it seems that websites like tuckerstrucks and chevsofthe40's etc. don’t list a lot of brake and chassis components for them is there someone who specialises in dually stuff?

Thanks again for your help in advance, information in Australia is so hard to find!!

Shane

Re: 1949 Dually Question

I read that as the truck did not come with a cab, just the hood, fenders and windshield. Possibly it left Canada that way and the cab was added in Australia. Do you have any pictures?

Re: 1949 Dually Question

A cowl with windshield was usually sold as the base for a school bus or some sort of delivery truck body conversion at that time. It could be that it was shipped from the factory that way and the cab was swapped on later. It could even have been swapped on when the chassis was new at the dealer if for some reason the truck didn't get used for it's intended purpose.
