Re: Manifolds on a 80s 350

Thank you. My mind was fonna melt with all these threads haha

Back to topic. Corvette manifolds won't flow any better than most. Now you have the small tube bottom of the grid quality headers. I know I used to have them. Get headers like these.
They are hooker headers. I found them on Craigslist for 40 dolla

Then use these http://www.jegs.com/i/Mr-Gasket/720/...oductId=748863

And use these http://catalog.remflex.com/CHEVROLET...t_p/rf2006.htm

Add your hpipe and you should be set. I daily drive my truck and have only touched the headers a few times. The first was after install and a drive I retightened them afterwords. Then a few times after just to check

anybody have this problem with headers?

I keep burning the wire on the pipe. i think my first problem is that they are cheap flow tech headers. does any body have a solution? i already headed up the pipe and punched a dimple in the pipe and that still didnt help with cleanence. or is their another set of headers that route different? i want to put new headers on it staying under $200

Re: anybody have this problem with headers?

Well i ordered new hooker headers to being with and they are routed the same way so i have no clearance between that pipe and that plug and wire, i didnt know if maybe another brand made headers that were routed differently or something if you get what im saying

Re: anybody have this problem with headers?

You can try the Accel shorty header plugs to start with - that'll bring the wire end closer to the block & off the header tube. Secondly you can get some heat wrap for the plug wire ends - they sell them for any wires.

Lastly you could either have your headers ceramic coated - or go more budget-friendly & spray them with some rattle can high-temp coating.

There's always the option of putting a little "dimple" in the tube also - not my favorite option...

Re: Manifolds on a 80s 350

I wish I could find it now to post up but it was either Car Craft or Hot Rod did an article several years ago about a company that sells hogged out manifolds that flow almost or just as good as headers yet dont have the rowdy sound.

Some guy used a similar set of manifolds on a 11 second sleeper Malibu or Chevelle.

You can use your own manifolds with a few tricks.
When I ran Pure Stock (which per rules requires stock manifolds hence the title Pure Stock) guys were starting to cheat by extrude honing the manifolds (among other things) hence the F.A.S.T. series was born.

Extrude honing is nothing new, but if you want the stock look and decent flow, hand port them and gasket match then send them off to Extrude Hone. All the F.A.S.T. guys have been doing it since the beginning and are now dipping into the 9's at 140 mph (on bias plys no less )

Re: Manifolds on a 80s 350

if you don't cut and seperate the exhaust header tubes before tightening to the head or
with stock manifolds, do the middle cylinders first
then the outsides not from the front or back.

a plus, sometimes if you get pulled over, headers they keep looking
manifolds look "stocker" ,last longer up here
headers don't last long in the winter, sitting or driving
but thats a salt issue

Re: Manifolds on a 80s 350

On my truck I run flowtech and I’ve never had a wire problem. I’ve had mine for ten years now and never burned a pair. I replace when they get old but I’ve been using the same wire looms. You just got to route them right and take the time to do it right. I make my set with a universal set from Accel.

Re: Manifolds on a 80s 350

you can also use 90deg boots and instead of running them up to valve covers, run them down like the old corvette engines which used clips off the oil pan bolts to hold the wires. Gives a clean look as well.

Re: Manifolds on a 80s 350

Speedway has ramhorns on sale for $3o each. I have ramhorns on my 83 K10. Ramhorns flow almost as well as cheap headers on a stock engine and a lot less problems. Check Speedway for ramhorns. They have a big selection.

Re: Manifolds on a 80s 350

MSD sells a straight boot that is bendable, this gets them away from the headers and keeps em there. I have always ran headers, from the cheapies to the $$$ ones and never had an issue that could not be remedied.
