Just a few simple questions about Ram Horns

I just got a few questions about the ram horn manifolds i picked up another 2" set fir $45 a piece, i just did a tune up on my truck and bought some ac delco wires that are the length made for the truck, if i put ram horns on do i need to get different wires? or do the stock ones work? also do i need any shields or anything thing? thanks guys

What year truck/engine do you have?

Many years used manifolds that run down underneath the spark plugs. And spark plug wires that run over the top of the valve covers.

But some years (mostly in the 80's I think) had some "log" style manifolds that went up over the spark plugs. These have the plug wires running down the back of the engine, then going forward and up to the plugs.

The plug wire routing on small blocks that originally had "ram's horn" manifolds also has the wires going down the back of the engine, running along near the oil pan rail, and then up to the plugs.

So if you've got the manifolds that are down under the plugs, the existing wires you have now will likely be too short to work with the ram's horns. But if you've got the 80's log manifolds that run over the top of the plugs, those wires should be long enough to work with the ram's horns.

Heat shields wouldn't be a bad idea. And I think you can buy reproductions of the OE style shields that were originally used with the ram's horn manifolds from most restoration parts suppliers.
