Blazer or Burb tank
I am getting ready to attempt a rear tank install on my '87 swb fleetside, and was wandering how far the tank hangs down under the bed after the install? I have read a ton of peoples builds, and it looks to be a pretty straightforward install but cant seem to find any finished pics with the bed installed. I dont really want to do the swap if its going to be really noticeable with the bed back on, so if anybody has any good pics from the back and sides after the install with the bed on please share them. Also would like to know if the sending unit in my 16 gal. saddle tank would work in the burb tank, or would i have to buy a new one? Info and pics are much appreciated. Thanks

Re: Blazer or Burb tank
If you run a roll pan, you'll see it. With at stock bumper, you'll see it. Look at the pictures. Take the axel shock mount as a reference point. Even with a 6" rear drop, you'll see it.

Re: Blazer or Burb tank
Im thinking it will be noticeable to, but how bad is the question?. I tried measuring out pieces of cardboard in the shape of the tank and taping them under my truck, but I dont really have enough room in my basement to back up and get a decent look at it. I have a roll pan on the truck now, but will be changing to a sport bumper after paint. Its also lowered 4'' in the rear. Just dont want to get halfway into it and not like the results..

Re: Blazer or Burb tank
Here ya go. 32 gallon burb tank. When you stand back away from it you can see maybe a couple of inches of the tank.

Re: Blazer or Burb tank
I have a 30 gallon blazer tank in my 77. It doesnt look much different than a blazer with the same tank. The only real problem is where to run the filler neck.

Re: Blazer or Burb tank
Thanks for the pics guys. It doesnt seem to hang down to bad. I think im going to start ordering parts, and maybe I can get this done in the next few months lol. Will the sending unit I have now work in the new tank?

Re: Blazer or Burb tank
i found a perect tank for this at a swap meet but it was already sold. the only description of it was "60's passenger car". its was thinner so it wouldnt hang down so low

Re: Blazer or Burb tank
the tanks are different depths according to rock auto. the pickup is 11"deep and the 31 gal burb tank is 12 3/4" deep. you'll need a burb sender if you want the fuel guage and fuel pickup tube in the correct location.

Re: Blazer or Burb tank
There is also a 28 gallon burb tank. If there is any chance you will ever go to fuel injection go ahead and get a 87 to 91 tank with baffles in it.
