IDEA!!! 18in STEELIES!!!
so surfing craigslist, i see an ad for a 64 c10. click on the ad, look at the pics, its a good looking truck. needs finishing but for $3k, not terrible. anyways, it says it has 18in steel wheels, and sure enough it does. i realized that he took the spare steel wheels from the new chevy trucks that are 18s and put them on the truck. looks good, and not a bad idea. anyone else like the idea?

Re: IDEA!!! 18in STEELIES!!!
Mike are those the spares off of the newer chev truck? I have a wheel leftover from the 08 I built, it is the spare wheel and looks kinda like it with the small holes all around the wheel but mine is a 17 inch wheel. I haven't had many of that style truck is the 18 inch a 4x4 wheel? I remember seeing [I think] some Silverados with 18 inch rubber,so maybe the spare looks alike for the 17 and 18 inch wheel

Re: IDEA!!! 18in STEELIES!!!
I've seen posts where folks would use the spare wheels from newer Dodge trucks. Look similar, to me.

Re: IDEA!!! 18in STEELIES!!!
Hmmm... I'm not sure I do like em, and I'm a steelie fanatic. I wonder what they'd look like painted up in shiny white....? I guess once one knows they are really spare tire wheels, it's hard to get that idea out of the back of one's mind - I'd feel like I was perpetually limping to the service station to get em all fixed.

Re: IDEA!!! 18in STEELIES!!!
Those are most likely the Nissan spares. I have the 20 inch spares and they look exactly the same.

I have a set of 18" Nissan Titan steelies...they are not "spares". they are base model wheels.

Re: IDEA!!! 18in STEELIES!!!
There is that one green truck on here with matching green steelies and a spare on the step bed...I liked it. This one just needs to be powder coated some color, and the truck lowered

Re: IDEA!!! 18in STEELIES!!!
I have 20" dodge 1500 spares on my 68 c10 (50 international body)
I plan on installing some baby moons to break up all the black. I think the truck in the OP's post would look a little better with bigger rubber to fill the wheel wells a bit more. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: IDEA!!! 18in STEELIES!!!
Looks wicked! Did the wheels require any modififcations in order to fit?

Re: IDEA!!! 18in STEELIES!!!
Not up front they fit fine with my cpp modular setup, but in the back it required a 1 inch spacer, due to that I have the narrower axle and the wheels have 5.5 of backspacing, also the hub bore on the wheel is smaller than the hub on the axle.

I'm taking my sweet time building this truck to be very reliable and safe. There are some rat rods out there that really put a bad name out there and I don't want to be one of those. I choose the c10 chassis (and choose to keep it virtually stock) specifically for the fact that I can make repairs really easy plus I can upgrade the heck out of it down the road. The guys on these forums already have great tastes in trucks to start with and would love to see their talents in rat rods too! It really give one the chance to be creative! I've got a 38 page build of pretty much every step. Pm me if your interested. Now, back to our regularly scheduled programming. P.s. I had a frame up resto 72 C10 when I was in high school. LOVED that truck and I can blame that truck for hooking me on c10's. I'll build another one day Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: IDEA!!! 18in STEELIES!!!
not sure on the caps....you'll need to measure the center first to see...then with a little fab you can make anything the right size fit.
did you ask what they are off of? And is that $50 with tires??? Also, what trim rings are you using???

Re: IDEA!!! 18in STEELIES!!!
yep $50 with the tires. he said they have some life left in them. so they will work for now, im building the 454 soon so it really isnt on the road much. as far as rings i saw a few sets on jcwhitney and ebay for $40 that are just the chrome or painted standard looking beauty rings. and they are from a nissan armada or titan. one of the two. im stoked to get them and see how they look. id like to do a baby moon center on them

Re: IDEA!!! 18in STEELIES!!!
I like this idea. I know the dodge wheels are 5 on 5 but I was kinda under the impression they had a lot of backspacing and wouldn't look/fit right if they were under the fenders of a 67-72 body. Am I right or has it been done and I just can't find a picture?

Re: IDEA!!! 18in STEELIES!!!
18" Nissan steelies are hubcentric, so you will need to run a spacer to get them to seat on the hub. Tried it already. 6 x 5.5bc iirc....
Toyota FJ Cruiser 17" steelies are also hub centric, however the hub stub on a GM product is smaller, so they actually fit without spacers. (but you should run spacers in the rear to compensate for the narrower axle width). Never tried the new GM spare steel rims on my old beater. May be a good idea. The Dodge steelie modifications have been discussed on here before. They can look freaking sick if done right. Signed, Steel Rim Junky.
