67-72 fog light switch placement

Hi,

I'm new to the forum but I have looked in from time to time. So I've tried looking though this site for this topic with no success so I have a question concerning those of you whom have installed fog lights or other items which require a switch in the cab. Where have you put your switches and if you' ve got pics lets see them. I know I can drill a hole pretty much anywhere on the dash but that just goes against my principals. I would rather make some sort of bracket and place just below the dash or somewhere I just can't think of right now.devil:

I am currently doing a frame off resto mod of my 72 K20 GMC, I've had it now for 11 years and it was a DD, was slowly getting all the parts which I needed to do this project during this time until, finally one of the springs in the clutch disk let go and the truck was stuck on the side of the road, my first instinct aside from the swearing was well if the trans has to come down might as well rip her apart. So now I am on the reassembly of the cab and I'm stuck with where to put these swithes!!! There will be two of them front fogs and rear fogs or work lights, handy for pinning a trailer at night.

So back to my build details, I am currently build IMO what is the truck GM should built but never did. It's got the following 427BBC600HP/NV4500 5 speed/NP205/D60front/14bolt rear, other mods include hydraulic clutch, hydroboost brakes, 6 inch lift, custom stainless exhaust, 4 wheel disc brakes, custom drive shafts front 1330 U joints rear 1410 U joints, blazer style fuel tank, crossover steering, yukon locker rear, Everything is being built or rebuilt by me with the exception of the motor which was done by a local engine builder who I know very well and he is king when it comes to BBC's, Pics to come soon.

I (and everyone else) would love to see some pics of your truck.



On the left you can kind of see I drilled 3 holes in a piece of 1" X 1/8" strap iron for 3 switches and bent it to match the slope of the bottom of the dash. I used a hole that was already there.

You can locate it below the wiper switch. I believe there is a hole in the metal part of the dash behind the gauge cluster bezel. My 72 Blazer had a manual choke there. You could use the space for a fog light switch and it would probably come off as something GM might have done depending on the style of switch.
If you find a rotary switch and get a spare knob from a headlight switch you would be good to go...

Thanks for the replies, I think I'll try the steel plate cause my gauge cluster doesn't have a hole for the choke, plus I actually need two switches. Is your plate in the way when you're getting in and out of the truck, I mean have you ripped open your jeans or leg.

Sweet Build

Surprisingly my leg has never touched the bracket. When I put it in I'd figured I'd have to move it but it works good where it is.

The only thing your truck needs to be perfect is A/C (It's 98* in the shade right now).

Thanks for the compliment, I just finished fabbing up my bracket. Its drying right now but I should be able to put it in tomorrow and get a pic up.

In the mean time here is a pic of the rear disk brakes and of the wheels which will be going on, there 37x12.50R16.5 Humvee tires on after market wheels. I would of prefered 39's but I got this for next to nothing so for now I'll be happy.

As for AC, I agree I'd love to put one in but these trucks up here are very rare, let alone an AC truck. So usually parts have to be bought new or shipped from southern states. However I did get lucky a few years back when I found a guy who had listed locally a basket case truck for sale. Lone behold when I went through the parts, the guy had 1 1/2 trucks. So I bought the whole lot. One truck was a 68 SWB C10 and the other a 71 LWB C20. Since then I managed to sell off everything which was ''C'' related part by part including the only frame and running gear and pretty much broke even on that.

That is the truck I would love to build. I guess I know what I'm going to do to my $100 beater.
