79 chevy

i have a 79 chevy 4x4 1/2 ton with a 12 bolt rear end that is getting bad. i rebuilt my motor this summer and it has more than the rear end can handle. i can get a dana 60 rear and a ford 9" rear for free. i know the 60 is pretty strong but i was just wondering about a 9". they have them in muscle cars and everything. the 9" is out of a 80 ford f-150 4x4 and has 5 bolt rims and a detroit locker in it allready

The 9" is good, but it also requires more power to run it. Don't let that slip your mind. It's not MUCH more power, but its enough. 2-3%.

I would also go with the 14 Bolt/Dana 60...

I curious, WHY or HOW does a 9" require more power to run it. I have a F@rd 9" in my 70. Does it have to do with the Locker?

I am not sure exactly why. I was just reading it in a Car Magazine, so I thought I would mention it.
