Re: 67-68 glove box door lock???

I ordered a new set for mine, came with matching locks for the door, glove box and ignition, they all use one key. Mine had a lock on the glove box when I got it but no key. I think it's a factory option.

My 69 CST came from the factory without a glove box lock which, if available, would have likely been part of the CST option. I don't recall ever seeing a 67-72 with a lock from the factory or, for that matter a light. Perhaps the 73 and up had locks.

The 69s came with only one key (actually 2, but they were the same) for the doors and ignition. It has rectangular head with the square Mark of Excellence GM logo as used on the choke delete plugs. I can't speak for the 67s and 68s, but I believe those were the first years for that GM logo. Otherwise, I'd think the key would have been the earlier octagonal style.

My 68 came from factory with glove box door lock that used the oval GM ignition key. The doors used a seperate squareish GM key. My aftermarket lock set uses seperate key for glovebox. Gotta keep the gun locked up seperately.

Interesting. Maybe they got cheap starting in 69. Anything on the SPID about it?

Re: 67-68 glove box door lock???

my 67 came with a octagon key for doors and ignition and didn't come with a glove box lock. i want to buy one but i have seen them come with both 67 style keys and i just wanted to know if they were coded to the octagon door key or had a seperate lock with the oval style. i think the cars had the oval style key for the trunk but not certain if trucks would have them. In 69 GM changed the styling of the keys for theft issues i believe. Rod.

All of the '67's came from the factory with the octagon keys. They used the "A" keyway. The biggest problem with them was that they didn't stick out of the recessed ignition far enough and were hard to get a hold of. Customer complaints was part of the reason GM switched to the rectangular head ignition key. I honestly can't tell you if the glove box locks were factory or dealer added. My theory is that if they were installed at the factory they would have been keyed the same as the other locks on the truck so I think they were dealer, locksmith, or owner installed. They also would definitely have been an option so should have been listed on the option sheet.

My 67 has the single octagon key and it has the locking glove box. Same key for all. Not on the SPID though. Probably a dealer installed option.
