the plugs on the trans will push down into the trans and fit somewhat loose unless the seal on the connector is wrong or the locks are broken on the connector and you should be able to see if they are broke

Thanks for the info!

The connector on the tranny doesn't appear to be broken, but I am quite sure it is.

In the first picture I can pull the connector out to the point where it should sit so that the harness has enough room to slide on and lock into its tab to stay tight on the tranny connector.

But as you can see in the second picture, it is impossible to get the harness to stay on its tab because the tranny connector slides back into the tranny when I try to put the harness on it.

It appears to be okay in the third picture, but the harness will just slip off the connector with hardly any force.

So I need to fix this asap.

Does anyone know what I can do or where I can find some info on fixing this connector?

Is it a full tranny rebuild job to get at it?

It looks like it is right above the pan, so if I drop the ATF fluid and the pan, would I be able to see it and get to it to fix it?

Is there a part number for it that I can go to GM and get a replacement?

Thanks guys! It's almost the long weekend here and if I don't get any parts needed by tomorrow noon, I'm hooped until next Tuesday!

That connecter is the internal harness. There should be "clips"on it to hold in the case. They are evedintly broken off. The internal haness is not hard to replace, but before buying one you can take the pan off and hold the connecter in place when you plug in the outer harness. Once plugged in it should stay. You could probably make some sort of bracket to hold it in place. Good luck!

Well you found the problem!!!

You cound pull the pan & hold it from the back to plug the connector in....But you would have to do this every time the trans is unplugged, That would suck.

You could put silicone on it, To glue it in...Not recommended.

Buy a harness, they are EASY to change.

I really need to know the year model of the trans?

I'm not entirely sure that this internal harness was broken before I tried to get the trans harness off of it last week to check Pin E for its voltage, but I will definitely replace it. It could have been though as I kind of recall the connector being loose when I first got the transmission and was cleaning and painting it.

The transmission I believe was out of a 2003 C3500 delivery type van. The VIN on that vehicle was:

1GBJC34U63E321367

If the connector just pulled off....It was never locked. Give your dealer the VIN...You WILL get the right part.

I agree with clinebarger. For sure replace it. My ideas were just temperary fixes to see if things worked.

I did in fact replace it in the end. The clips were broken off the old connector so that is why it wouldn't stay in place.

It was not too hard to replace the internal harness, just messy as I spilt more ATF than I could drain into my bucket.

I also got a little bracket from the tranny shop to bolt inside the pan to hold the connector in place so it wouldn't push in.

My original LS harness did not come with all the connectors for the tranny (I'm not sure why or if they were deleted out of the PCM programming), but my new Speed & Performance harness came with all the connectors and now the PCM is not throwing any codes.

I drove the truck to the alignment shop this morning without incident....I heard it shift up from 1 - 2 - 3. Will take it on the highway tonight to check for higher gears.

Thank you all for your help on this. What seems to be a mountain of a problem at the time gets turned into a molehole with the excellent information I get from you here!
