Strange coil spring???

I took the bed off my truck so I can spray down the frame and get to things a little easier. I noticed this spring that is on top of the rear axle (both sides). Haven't seen this in any of the catalogs so not sure what it would even be called. Is this factory or something a farmer put on because he thought he needed it?

Re: Strange coil spring???

Old Skool "helper springs". I believe they were sold in kits for coil sprung trucks.
