No More Hotrod Truck.

Well I finally got everything to get my truck back running and last weekend when I was about to drop my new running gear in the truck I got a call. A close friend was in need of cash and room in his shop. So he needed to sell his car that he just got back form having a rather nice cage put in. After the deal was done I got a decent lil car that needs a little work before I can drop my drive train but should turn out to be abit quicker. Now the 64' will get late model running gear and be my hauler.

The car is a foxbody mustang coupe with 8 point cage, tubular crossmember (setup for sbc, bbc or ls), Flaming river manual rack, tubular rear control arms and a fresh 8.8 with hardened axles and a decent posi. Needs a lil body work and paint but I have never been one to care much about appearance if it's build right and decently quick.

Dare i say the 55' chevy or 67' Camaro of the modern day . Light weight , suspension works , parts everywhere and cheap and repeatable . I like it .

Buy the smooth front panels and install them while it is this far apart . They really clean up the engine bay .

Yeah but it will still be chevy powered.

Hotrod you happen to have a source on those panels. My brother and I were planing to just weld up and try to smooth the firewall out. Neither of us are bodymen so if I can purchase them it's less likely I hack up the car.

You can also fab your own . There are several Youtube videos . Cool cars , i think one with a LS or new Hemi would be cool for a bracket car .

Well to be honest if it wasn't for the deal I got I would have stuck with my truck. Was looking for someone to cage it when I got the car. I paid less for the car then he paid for the cage or what it would take to cage my truck. Plus I wasn't looking forward to cutting on the truck. She aint pretty but she aint junk either.

Remember Rannos and i are down here off the gulf . Good early trucks are hard to come by . Alot easier to cut up one of these things .

So true. My old truck is a lil'ruff around the edges but the cab corners and rockers are solid. Very little rust in the floor pans. Fenders have no rust at all. Only rust is the panel just above the windshield and soon as my brother brings me his welder that will be replaced. I just can't bring myself to hack up a cab that is this solid, to cage it. As much as I like racing trucks and even tho the truck is SOOOO much cooler then the coupe I just cant do it.

Plus my son has told me that once I kick the bucket and he gets the truck he wants to do a full restoration on it. He said it with such conviction I asked if I should worry about him speeding the passing down of the truck along.

Well plans have changed again. I have been going over the car to see what all it needed before I dropped my drive train in it and it needs abit more work then I was lead to beleive. So for now I will drop the motor in my truck and do some index stuff. On motor I should be able to run the 7.0 index.

I will work on the car during the week and play with the truck on the weekends. I need to rerun all the brake lines, re-wire everything, run a fuel system and finish up the suspension work on the car.

I also may be getting a decent deal on some BBC stuff. So I may just leave the SBC in the truck and build me a decent stroked BBC for the mustang. My buddy I got the car from still has the BBC headers to fit the mustang with that K-member. Will have to wait and see, I guess.

Which ever way I go with the car, I hope to have the truck going in 2-3 weeks. If I do end up pulling the SBC back out of the truck I have the complete running gear out of a low milage 99 Yukon to go in the 64. It was my parent's Yukon. My elderly father rearended a welding truck about 2 months ago and I got the Yukon back from the insurawnce company for $700. Everything still works, truck still runs and drives. Just the front is smashed a bit.
