Re: what did you get done 8/5/12 edition

bolted my t56 up into my 86 swb using a temp. 2x4 crossmember until i get some measurements on a factory two hump x-member, pulled the steering column and pedals out then installed the new pedal set and column for a manual. then played with my beautiful daughters and Mrs. Superwade57 .

narrowing down the list of stuff to do til its atleast on the rode.... plumb hydraulic clutch, notch seat and reinstall, put core support, inner and outter fenders back on, install 73 74 grill... closer all the time

Re: what did you get done 8/5/12 edition

Put my old vinyl seat back in, was tired of the lack of seatbelt slots in the cloth one I installed. Also scraped all the overspray off the rear window and took all the stickers off. Looks so much better now.

Re: what did you get done 8/5/12 edition

Got the parts truck home I bought for the bed and shoulder belt retractor. Found out it had the complete A/C set up if I choose to go that route and a few other things of interest. Not a bad buy for $350, especially considering the bed is the same color as my cab.

Re: what did you get done 8/5/12 edition

Rebuilt the edelbrock 1406 I bought for 50 bucks. Put it on my 78 350. Must say it improved the truck. No more waiting for the truck to catch up with my foot when trying to pass. This should hold me until I decide to pull and rebuild for performance.

Re: what did you get done 8/5/12 edition

Replaced the power steering pump and hoses and went ahead and replaced the belts while I was there. I thought power steering would be as simple as replacing an alternator, just with fluid instead of wires. Boy, was that a miscalculation! Next time I will definitely buy the pump with the reservoir installed, that was a hassle that I would gladly pay $15 to skip! But a few extra hours later it's back together and now it runs nicely with no whine/screech.

Re: what did you get done 8/5/12 edition

The PO had the plug wires all died to the top of the engine. I rerouted the wires , and placed them in the wire holders where they belong. It looks a lot better now. It took me months to get around to doing it.

Re: what did you get done 8/5/12 edition

I sanded the dash with some rough sandpaper. Then I used some 3M adhesive ans sprayed both the dash and the carpet real good, let them get tacky and press them together.

Cutting the carpet was tricky on the driver side That is what took up most of my time, getting it all cut out. Pulling off the trim on the passenger side was scary, I was afraid I was gonna brake the plastic taking the nuts off.
