How Much To Rebuild TH350

Hey guys, now that my trans is out I want to get it rebuilt. Got a quote from the guy that rebuilt my moms TH400 ($1200 total, pulled it, and reinstalled) and he quoted me $700 since I have it out and will install later. Is this a good price? Also should I put in a shift kit? Daily driver but want some performance. If so what kit should it get?

Thanks.

Re: How Much To Rebuild TH350

A $700 bench job should include a shift kit & a Converter.

If you have a TH350C (lock-up)....Throw it away & find a good TH350 core to have built.

Re: How Much To Rebuild TH350

I agree ditch the lock up if it is, I have a friend that owns a NAtionwie and he does 350-400 bench units for $350-400 with convertors and any knowledgeable tranny guy can build a shift kit. He did a 700R4 for me about a year and half ago for $525 with a new case, convertor, all the upgrades and some bump, my son pulled and put it.

A "shop made" shift kit is just drilling some holes bigger in the separator plate, Omit some checkballs, They might even double feed the direct's, Ive used this method in the past....But for the money a Trans-Go SK-350 http://transgoonline.com/products.ph...dcountview=Yes is hard to beat.

There is NO WAY you can build a stock 700R4 for $525, And do what really needs to be done....Much less with a case & "all the upgrades".

You want his number, no need to lie.

The case was used (mine was cracked) if that matters to ya.

Post #66....Parts & prices For a STOCK build from online vendors, Yes I do get a break on pricing from local vendors, But the prices do line-up for what I sell them for. If I did a 700R4 for $525 I would lose money!

Does it matter if it was a 89 4X4?

Nationwide Transmission

My name is Kevin White, it was done for my son's Sierra, the one we bought from Jeffery. It was between Aug and Christmas of 2010. He does a fair number of automatics for me so clarify which one you are talking about.

He obviously buys his parts wholesale and it wasn't smoked when we pulled it so the hard parts were good.

This is the link I meant to post....Post #66 http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=528257&page=3

Im talking about the 4L60 & 700R4, Just because a trans works....Does Not mean there is no wear to the hard parts.

700R4's are HARD on bushings, Bushings get wear, Hard parts start to wear....Sprags, Sunshell, Torrington bearings, Thrust washers & eventually the planets, This is the HARD truth.

TH350's are equally hard on bushings, But dont have as many hard parts & parts are cheaper.

I dont need to call some chain trans shop in Florida. Ive worked for enough of them in Texas, They ALL told me to do "half-ass" work....Make it last a year. Showed worn parts to managers...Was told it was OK....Just put clutches & seals in.

Re: How Much To Rebuild TH350

I just had my 700R4 rebuilt in my 89' for $2,200. I was driving through Cheyenne and had very little selection on shops. Now, a month later I am getting a shudder while going into reverse. My local Colo Springs shop is looking at it right now and hope to get it fixed in the next few days.

Clinebarger, it looks like you know your transmissions.....any reason a rebuilt would be doing this?? He rebuilt the whole thing using my original case. Current shop said it's losing pressure inside.....

Re: How Much To Rebuild TH350

Got a quote last year on my th350 ( 78 gmc ) 700$ for a rebuild. Thats with them doing all of it, pull an re-install. I did not get it rebuilt because its still shifting and i hardly drive it anyway.
For reference the same shop just rebuilt the 4L60E in my wifes burb. Cost me 2400$, although they replaced all the gaskets on the back of the 5.3 which was hemorraging 1qt./mth. So i didnt feel too raped.

Re: How Much To Rebuild TH350

Clinebarger, I have a 700R4 question and don't want to highjack this thread. Can i PM you the question?

BTW 700 to bench rebuild a TH350 is a bit steep. There really isn't that much to rebuild a TH350 or 400. I would think 400 to 500 if it is just a stock rebuild without any major parts needed. Now 700R4 are going to be quite a bit more rebuild, something along the lines of 900 without any major parts.

Re: How Much To Rebuild TH350

In my area a bench rebuild is around $500 or less for a 350 trans. 4L60s are $600 all day long rebuilt on Craigslist. Also Summit sells 350 & 400 trans fresh for $900 -$1000. Shop around before you lay out cash. The expensive part is labor. If you can do it yourself, that saves a few bucks.

This is really not the place but you seem to want to attack, but with respect to the OP I will be brief. I do not know your qualification and would not act as if I did. The boy you refer to as some chain store has been building trannies for close to 40 years and for me for 30 years for just about every performance configurations you can think of. He builds engines and trannies well beyond most peoples imaginations much less thier reality. He took on the Nationwide franchise due to the credibility of a nationwide warranty and certain infrastructures. We have been friends since teenagers. I have been in the service side of the car business for over 30 years and we'll say at a very high level, not to mention have lived and breathed cars most all my life.

I have found that most people who need to tear others down don't have enough faith in themselves to stand on thier own merits. It's a shame you're probably quite knowledgeable

Im not attacking you or him. Thing's can be taken the wrong way on the internet. Im just here to help, You can look up my post's Im not a troll looking for a fight. Maybe out spoken alittle

Ive built hundred's off 700R4/4L60/4L60E's. I use GM specs, If a part is out side spec or even close....It gets replaced. Mostly with Delco & Borg Warner parts, Does me being anal cost more money...absolutely. Could be the difference between getting 50,000 miles out of a trans or 100,000 miles out of a trans in my opinion.

So I will rephrase my earlier post....I cant build a 700R4 for what he can.
