A/C advice please!
Quote:
Looking for the best way to add A/C to my '60 Looked at nostalgic / vintage / old air etc Was wondering how hard it would be to add the A/C option from the 63-66 trucks, it would all match, thinking of putting the controls where the ashtray currently sits any advice much appreciated love the board by the way if anyone is interested the truck is going semi black, with tints and matte aluminium color grill, front bumper and wheels the bed i'm redoing with 2 shades of trex porch decking! no more peeled laquer |

Re: A/C advice please!
No answer for the A/C part but great looking truck. I would so leave that color combo alone.

Re: A/C advice please!
I bought the complete sure fit kit ...I need to take a pic of the dash....I used the factory center vents and then a vent on both sides of dash...I drilled the dash for the vents....I also used the delux heater controlls for the controll of the unit...took about 20 hours to install and charge

I look forward to seeing the end result. Is the Surefit a GenIV unit?

haha she looks better out of the truck, both keepers!
brokenspoke would love to see how your dash looks if you can snap a quick pic personally i think the 60-63 dash is amongst the prettiest out there and dont want to clutter everyting i have seen adds odd vents etc to the look Last edited by pabs; 08-16-2012 at 05:39 PM. |

Re: A/C advice please!
for another project i used old-air the most compact units i could find, (least expensive too) i may do the same here as well and sit one of these underdash in the middle like aerotruk6
the units are very compact and should fit not sure which style would look best and whether i should get hear or get heat and ac and forget the oe stuff, i have the dimensions somewhere.. opinions ? heres the link site it tough to navigate http://www.oldairproducts.com/catalo...120132098.html http://www.oldairproducts.com/catalo...120132097.html Last edited by pabs; 08-16-2012 at 09:58 PM. |

Re: A/C advice please!
pabs,
Another option would be Classic Auto Air. The Heat A/C controls fit in the factory heater control location. A co worker installed the Classis Auto Air system in his 65 El Camino and he is very pleased with the system. Here's a link: http://www.classicautoair.com/60_63_..._Chevy_AC.html My 64 allready came with Vintage air installed and it works fine but I never liked the cheezey plastic vents that came with the system. I found a pair of 1964 Chrysler A/C vents that I installed in my C-10 and they sure look more at home than the cheap plastic junk. Here's some pics. I'm still on the hunt for a couple more of the Chrysler vents to use for a center vent but they were pretty much the same from 63 - 66 except on the Imperials so I'm hoping they won't be too hard to find. |

Re: A/C advice please!
64 shortbox thanks!!
this is an out of the way maker didnt come up in my search and theyre install pdf has crazy detail love them using the existing controls and not some modern piece like the vintage air sure fit best of all like you say its the cheezy vents and these arent too bad and not bulky at all ill probably just hook up 2 in the midde and set them back a bit because i LOOVEE my simple dash the internet comes through again, who said its a fad! |

Re: A/C advice please!
would love to see a pic of that sounds good their website just shows the replacement controls
http://www.vintageair.com/2012catalo...Page%2033).pdf probably cos yours is a 64-66 and had the A/C standard option it can use the stock units I'm still leaning toward the complete old-air heat/ac with the rectangular vents for reliability and simplicity, disconnect the current heating and not co-mingle Last edited by pabs; 08-19-2012 at 11:43 AM. |
