Talking AC install done on the 67 ! old air products model # 300

OK , got the AC installed on my 67 , BLOWS ICE COLD ! NICE !
It is an AC kit from old air products it's model #300 they provided the bracket's and every single part to do this ! the only thing I had to do was install it and get it gassed up ! this was time consuming to install but I think pretty much anybody could do it ? HECK I DID , if I put anything else on this truck it cant be belt driven LOL Ive got three rows of pulley's and misc part's and brackets from 1962 to 1984 to get all this to work on this 6 cylinder engine , it's got a belt for the power steering a belt for the alternator and now a third for the air conditioner compressor , I put on an electric fan jumped of a relay that work's with the compressor cycle's , here is some pics ,,,,,,,,,

Nice. You used to see units like that in 60's vehicles all the time. It is very "period" looking.

Boy I remember those center mount units. Whoever sits in the middle stays coooooold. Fan noise shouldn't be much of an issue as you can usually run it on med or low fan and stay real comfortable.
You have a very noticeable power loss now with that a/c?
I'm curious if this is a cycling clutch orifice tube design or has the old expansion valve setup.

Re: AC install done on the 67 ! old air products model # 300

you cant run it on HIGH for long it gets too cold , I run it on the first fan notch low speed and the thermostat turned down once you get the cab cool , it has an expansion valve ,, power loss is not bad at all , and also once you get the cab cool the compressor dont run all the time it kicks on and off and going 55 you dont notice it , now on a steep hill with this six cylinder you will notice it more im sure ,,, but just cruising its fine , someone said those older units took like 60 HP ! that would be bad !

Re: AC install done on the 67 ! old air products model # 300

nice job - looks real nice! In one pic, it kinda looks to me like it's pointing "up" but in the other picture it looks "just right" - is there any adjustability in the angle at which it's installed? How long did it take you to do the whole thing? Very cool! (pun intended)

the unit is pointing UP at first I did not think it would work but after I got it going it actually worked out great it blows up into the open area of the cab and you can feel cold air on the back of your neck ! , it took me 4 day's working on it in the evenings after work , you could do the whole job in a day ,,

Cool Re: AC install done on the 67 ! old air products model # 300

Looks as though the system is running fine. I would like to know why the one line is covered with the black rubbery insulation. Just wondering after seeing the picture. How does it do temp wise on the motor I noticed your running the factory fan cover also.

Oh u need to add some of that paper tails so when it comes on it blows them around like on all the old AC commerical's.

After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

the covering on the one hose was because this hose SWEATS and drips moisture off it my friend who owns a AC shop gassed this system up for me recommended that I wrap that hose all the way to the unit inside he said the system works better to keep that hose cold ? temp wise on the motor it runs an the low end of my gauge I have a 3 row aluminum radiator and a 180 degree thermostat temp hand gets up to a little less that a 1/4 gauge and never moves I just drove this truck 4 hrs to pigeon forge to the rod run drove it 3 days in stand still traffic and then back home AGAIN I did this last year too the truck nor this AC system has given me one minute of problem ,,

Sounds good! Thanks for the answer. I guess since that hose runs to the inside it wouldn't do to have water dripping everywhere!

Re: AC install done on the 67 ! old air products model # 300

That looks great! Glad to know it works so well. I bought the Old Air kit that has the vents that look like factory, and you cut your dash to put them in, but I sold it to a buddy before I ever took it out of the box. I didn't want to cut my das, and had thought about going with an under dash unit like yours, and this has nearly sold me on the idea! Thanks for this good thread.
