Looking for a little help on wheels

I've got a 49 3100 body sitting on a 55 3/4 ton straight axle frame with 15" 6 lug steel wheels. I was planning on putting a set of drop spindles on it and will be looking for a 16" wheel. What are my options for wheels for this truck? Is there a simple solution to change over to 5 lug? Seems like i'm limited when searching for 6 lug wheels. I like plain steel wheels with whitewalls and probably chrome dish hubcaps.

Re: Looking for a little help on wheels

I'm wondering exactly what you have as a 55 3/4 ton axle should have 8 lug wheels. A half ton axle would have 6 lug wheels.

You can use 54 car hubs and drums to go to 5 lug but 16 inch stock style wheels for the 5 on 4-3/4 bolt pattern aren't any easier to find.

I'm not familiar with the dropped spindles for I beam axles so you've lost me there.

Re: Looking for a little help on wheels

I do have 6 lug wheels, but the guy I bought the project from said it was sitting on a 55 3/4 ton frame. I just assumed the axles were original to the 3/4 ton frame. I forgot that 3/4 tons came out with 8 lug. Now I don't know what i've got! lol I'm new at these old trucks. I was planning on going with sids 3' drop spindles, and from the info and pictures i've found, everyone said i would need to go with a 16" wheel.
I may be way off in my thinking, if so, please feel free to give me a little direction.

Re: Looking for a little help on wheels

I wonder if I can order some baby moon hubcaps to fit my steel wheels? I don't see any tabs to attach the hubcaps and i'm not sure how to measure them. I'm assuming my bolt pattern is 6 on 5.5? If so, i'll probably paint the wheels and throw a set of moons on them.

"I'm assuming my bolt pattern is 6 on 5.5?"

Factory rally's off a K10 are 6x5.5. not exactly the "smoothie" look your after but, since you can usally pick them up cheap they may work in a pinch.

"Is there a simple solution to change over to 5 lug?"

There are aftermarket disk conversions for 6 to 5 lug. check with CLASSIC PERFORMANCE PARTS

Sounds like you need to take some mearsurements and verify what it is you have first, then you can consider your options.

A remember to check the center hole size.

Re: Looking for a little help on wheels

Thanks for the reply, I measured the bolt pattern and it was 6 on 5.5. I've attached a couple of pics of the front wheel. Does anyone know if I can get some baby moon hubcap to work on these wheels?
