I just remember the 1979 gas crunch as I was driving by then. I remember paying around 75 cents/gal before I went in the Air Force and when I got out of basic and tech school, just a few months later, it was around a dollar! They had to modify the pumps to allow for another digit. It was like I came back into another world!

We had just purchased a new Chevelle, with a 454 cu in engine. (I still have it).

I remember how crazy a dollar a gallon sounded. I am still subconsciously stuck on $2 a gallon.

I remember a while back (maybe ten years ago) they were building a new gas station. They were trying out the new electronic display out by the road and put $3.33 a gallon on the sign. It nearly caused a panic!

I got a kick out of the guy with the lawnmower. Also, I had a pair of pants just like those. Seriously.
