I found a camper that matches the truck
I was looking on Craigslist this morning and this early 70's Chinook camper was up for grabs. It needs a serious bath and a couple of days work before it gets used but it's clean inside and everything works. And it it is pretty close to the same year as the truck.
It also rides on the truck better than any other camper I've had so that is a plus. Now to move the front of the bed gas tank so I can slide it 8 inches further forward. |

Re: I found a camper that matches the truck
Very cool!
I love seeing the same vintage or older campers on these trucks, since that is how I always remember them. To me it shows that the owner uses the truck as it was intended. If I had a LWB K20 I would be putting an Alaskan camper on it.

Re: I found a camper that matches the truck
let me do a bit of clean up before I take any photos. It's clean as in not nasty (very clean in that respect) but it is still dirty and the stick on paper that they put on the walls is peeling off the mahogany paneling. Genuine 1971 with the turquoise appliances.

Re: I found a camper that matches the truck
I went out and did a bit of cleaning on the inside.
The culprit that caused the needed cleaning and most of the needed repairs. This will get replaced tomorrow. The inside of the oven was pretty clean for sitting since 1999 Avocado green double sink. My grandmother Cheney would have loved this camper's interior with all the green. Molded Fiberglass overhead cabinets. Green cushions on the dinette that look like new. Green and very small fridge. But it is a fridge and not an ice box. Yep a green stove with three burners and an oven. And more peeling stick on stuff. Cozy seating for 4. The table wobbles a bit though. The galley. Original mattress and privacy curtains that were hand sewn by the owner's wife. And more peeling stick on stuff. I think I'm going to peel the stick on stuff that's bad and paint the wood behind it and call it good. Lots of photos for a somewhat ot subject but it is what was sold new when these trucks were new. This camper was pretty high end in 1971 and was built locally. |

Re: I found a camper that matches the truck
Wood wheel is a Nardi off Ebay that started live on a Mazda Miata in Asia somewhere. My hands love it.
Seat is a swap meet 50.00 special that fits the truck well but could have more lateral back support. It's a good 150 mile seat but when you try for much more than that at one go your back starts to complain. That is one reason for getting the camper. The road trips that were easy a few years ago are getting a bit long for one day turn arounds now. |

Re: I found a camper that matches the truck
Nice rig. Here is a '69 brochure. FWI There is a matching 14' chassis mount Chinook in the for sale section if you need more matching room. Just think his and hers at the campsite or show.
Also to all of those who keep wondering why Camper Specials don't have manditory mirrors. Here is a good example of period camper mounted mirrors as I have mentioned before. edit... errr... actually I meant the first picture post in this thread way back at the top.

Re: I found a camper that matches the truck
Always liked those chinook campers. I had a 72 weekender 11 1/2 foot for a few years but it was just to big.

Re: I found a camper that matches the truck
Nice combo! I love those Chinooks. You guys in the NW are lucky. Those didn't find their way back east. That fiberglass holds up way better than the seemed aluminum sheet and makes for better survivors. Oh,BTW,that's Avocado you have in there. My old camper had a Dark Coral. Turquoise was another one found,as well as Harvest Gold. Great period colors!

Re: I found a camper that matches the truck
The people I got this one from had a Chassis mount on a 67/72 GMC chassis at the same time but I called too late on it.
Yep, Special K it is avocado green and lots of it. It was a bit dark in it when I first looked it over and the sink looked turquoise then. Right now I need to get the roof vent changed and move my boat scaffold to where I can scrub the top of the camper with Simple Green and get 13 years of sitting cleaned off of it. Water and the scrub wand did wonders though. |

Re: I found a camper that matches the truck
I would like to apologize to op, I was under he impression it was the sellers truck and not his. I just brought it to attention about the grille because it was unique, and I said I didn't care for it and that's was in my opinion, I didn't mean to step on toes. I'm srry to op. I was out of line for posting my opinion and I feel bad.

Nice combo you have there now. I think the big campers look really cool. My buddy that now owns my K20 would probably loved to have that baby.
