Barn find 71 K2500 followed me home

Picked this up yesterday a couple hundred miles away. More pics to come but heres a couple to get started. I was after it as a parts truck but i learned it has a title and the more i look at the chassis and driveline configuration, may just have to save it.

Highlights: Very original except for engine. None of that heavy rust/pitting on frame we often see around here, D60 rear, 4spd, V8 (need to identify), power steering, Super custom, 16 inch one piece rims. Also, being a 71 3/4, its naturally got the HD dana 44 up front with original hubs (scraped up a bit though), np 205, disc brakes, power brakes

Lowlights: used a a farm truck so body is pretty rough and so is interior. I believe it was in this barn up until a couple weeks ago. Also a ton of rubbish in the cab and bed! The place where the auction was was pretty overgrown and in disrepair.

Sure was fun to winch on the trailer with two fronts off thier beads. Luckily two nice guys helped me guide it on and remove the front hubs so it would clear the fenders. Stay tuned for better pics

Next time you trailer a 4x4, put it on backwards. The front axle is wider than the rear. the rear end will clear the trailer fenders. Learned that on this site recently. Love this forum.

I would think that would put the majority of the weight way too far back and cause all sorts of towing problems.

I did that years ago with a 66 Coronet. Loaded it rear end first. Trailer started swaying all over the freeway behind us. Almost didn't get it stopped before a catastrophe.

Nice truck Jud! Too bad its not blue/blue....

The stripe is not "very rare", only original stripes are rarely seen due too age and repaints.

The infation fighter had the paint strip as part of the package but it was a stand alone RPO D89.

I always wondered what that was on my '72 K2500's SPID. I thought it was a solid stripe down the center. (my truck was painted a different color).

Truck was on a farm on the banks of the red river b/n minnesota and north dakota. I drive through mountain lake though a couple times a year when I take a different route to go to Iowa.

Yep! I picked up the box below for my 72 K20 that has that on it. I was thinking about reproducing it during the restoration of that one. I like how it adds visual appeal without being a dust/dirt trap. Trim can be a pain if you drive on dusty roads since it holds dust that just keeps flowing out when you wash the vehicle.

we'll see, not sure yet on the fate of it. Will wait and get the title in hand b/4 any decision is made. I don't see it as a restoration I will do though. I have two other 4x4's to restore and really want a 70 K20 chevy CST. I have a couple local people that have been looking for K20's- one of them may take it.

Good idea, i've never not been able to go freeway speed limit (70-75 mph here) with a truck on this trailer behind my 2500hd so its pretty stable and I probably could have gotten away with the balance issue. It would have been hard to get behind the truck but they did have a deere there that could have spun it around.

i know! why did people get green when they could have gotten blue? I believe blue was available on 71 gmc;s Can you or Pancho tell me more about the inflation fighter package.

Its an inside joke- I picked up a couple trucks last year and neither had the dipstick tube or bracket in it. While on the topic though- 4x4's had unique dipstick tubes to clear the firewall better since the engines sat back further

The intake has a "waffle" pattern on it, can you identify? Also what is the air cleaner off of? There is a pic of it above.

The pics below are of the good, the bad and the ugly.
