1950 rear suspension help

I just picked up a 1950 chevy pickup and Im in the start of my build, Im looking to redo the the rear suspension as cheap and easy as possible as I have a kid on the way and Im pretty new with building up a truck, I was trying to find ideas on getting rid of the stock leafs with something that isn't such a rough ride, some one was telling me that i could use leafs out of a mid 90s dodge mini van? if anyone has any ideas that could help or has done something else like this that would be wicked. Thanks. P.S awesome site!!
