th350 to sm465 swap
I did a search, and it seems like everybody swaps from 4-speed to auto. I have a factory auto but I find a stick a lot less boring to drive. I have a 350 with a turbo 350 tranny and np205 t-case. I'm assuming the easiest way is to switch the entire trans/case as a unit, right? Anybody with experience doing this? And what else will I need to change/modify for the swap? Thanks for any replies.
Jason

Not sure on the actual swap, I was going to ask the same question. Is it easier to drop the tranny and t-case out the bottom or take the motor, tranny and t-case out the top?
Besides the tranny and t-case, you will need a flywheel and clutch assembly, pedal assembly and clutch linkage. The rear dirveshaft will need to be replace, not sure about the front but I think that will be a different length. You will also need to cut new holes in your hump cover or replace it with a 465/205 cover. Check to see if you have the clutch pivot bracket mounted to the top of the drivers side frame rail by the oil filter, or at least the holes for it. If those holes are not there it could be a real pig drilling them with the cab on

You will have to pull tranny and tcase no question. BTW i'll take your old th350/205 adapter off your hands.

Tranny Swap
I did the opposite of what you want to do. In addition to what HeavyK20 said you also may want to replace your steering columb with one from a standard. I found that no modifications were needed to the drive shafts nor did I have to move the Transfer-case cross member. The adpters between the trannys are different lengths thus keeping the overall lengths the same.
( as long as you use a stock set-up 465/205 to replace a stock 350/205 ) If you use a 203 transfer case I believe then your drive shafts would be different lengths. There may also be a difference in your wiring harness. The standards have a plug that goes to the tranny thats either for your neutral sfety or back-up lights not sure which. |

I have a 465/205 combination in good condition that I would swap for your 350/205 setup. Also have a flywheel, bellhousing, clutch pedal and linkage setup. If you are interested drop me an email through this forum.

Thanks for the responses guys!
heavyk20, not sure if I have the pivot on the frame or not, i'll have to take a look. alf4444, i'm not sure what i'm doing with the tranny and t-case yet, but if I decide to get rid of it, i'll give you a shout Ridgeback, thanks for the offer, but Virginia is a loooong way from me...I think shipping would be a major pain in the a$$. I was hoping to just by pass the steering column for now until I can get my hands on a s.column for a manual trans. Also, 72Mario said he would give me all the linkage cheap too. My cab is already set up for a clutch, minus the actual pedal( I think I chucked it when I swapped cabs DOH!) I'll check back after I talk to72Mario I f I have anymore questions(which I'm sure I will):p
