67 chevrolet c20 stepside questions.

Mostly a 73-87 guy, but I just bought this truck the other day. Im finding alot of stuff out but one thing I cant find is another 67 longbed stepside. Is this the original bed? was it an original stepside anyways? theres no rpo for it, however there is one for the spare carrier.

it doesnt seem to be much of a "desired" truck. other than by me.
its a 292 sm420, cant remember when the 465 started but pretty sure this isnt one. runs like a boss, runs great. even has power steering.

so the plans are to swap it over to 4wd, the hard way. gonna use 73-87 front shackle hangers and some flat front springs i come across. and mess with the engine crossmember somehow. probably cutoff wheel. then im gonna flip the eaton to the bottom of the trailing arms.

ideally id find another 420/t221 combo, but it may just end up being a 465 205. any for sale in south texas let me know! lol.
anyone got any good pictures of that combo out of the truck?

whats not right on this truck? i know the hubcaps, but anything else funky?
pretty sure the seat isnt original, but not sure.

id love to hear your opinions, facts, suggestions, hate mail, etc.
i have never seen another one of these trucks before. so i figured id get it.

its gonna be a fun project, and a good zombie killin truck.

the box is older than the truck. the fenders give it away. 55 second series to 66 uses that style fender. old money.

Re: 67 chevrolet c20 stepside questions.

That's right on the bed vintage. I can't read the model #,but that tells if the truck was Fleetside or Stepside originally. Personally,I think a long Stepside 4wd is one of the coolest things there is. I have plans to take my '72 Sierra Grande Wideside and change it to a Fenderside. I have a Dana 60 for the front and an HO52 No-Spin for the rear,as well as 3500 emblems,8.25 x 16.5 factory wheels,12.50/37 Swamper SSRs,and a cab light top to put on. It's going to look like a big old factory K3500 Fenderside Sierra Grande. So,join the club. Sounds like a good plan to me.

Re: 67 chevrolet c20 stepside questions.

Sounds like we could be friends! I love my k30s, and this one will turn into one.

One half of me wants to sm420/221 it with a big hub 44, then another wants to 465/205 it with a Dodge kp 60f. Cab lights are a must. I also have the stock 16.5s, but I'm leaning toward 9.00x16 mud grips.

Model number is cs20904 if that helps.

Re: 67 chevrolet c20 stepside questions.

Yep,it was originally a Stepside. The last two digits,04,mean it's a Stepside. Maybe just the fenders were changed. Do the ribs in the steps run all the way from front to back or do they stop and start again in the middle? Follow me?I might not be making it clear. The 67-72s don't run continuous and the 55-66 do. I like the 9.00-16s,too. My plan comes about by using what I have. I had several trucks I wanted to build and am settling for the '72 4wd and a '67 2wd. I already have the 6" springs and 37s. I probably won't be able to buy another set when these wear down and figure that's when I'll go to just a couple inches over stock with 255/85s,Q78s,or 9.00-16s on 7" Ford steel wheels (w/hubcaps). I see the 69-72 painted caps on the parts board from time to time.

Re: 67 chevrolet c20 stepside questions.

There's a couple longbed steppers here locally, and I had one years ago when I lived in Washington. I also had a 66 Burban that a PO had switched to 4x4, it rode so bad on the hiway I never got to take it out wheelin. Seems the trailing arm rear with front leafs was the problem, as I have spoke to others who had the same experience.
If you have one available, why not just swap that body onto a 73-up 4x4 frame? Oh and if you keep the 292, you'll need a 292 specific 4x4 engine crossmember, as 292's have offset motor mounts. I have one of those in a 74 I could live without, and I think I have some of those earlier hubcaps like the spare laying around. Cool old truck!

Re: 67 chevrolet c20 stepside questions.

my steps have the grooves that go almost to the edges but stop like an inch away from the fender. so theyre continuous.

i dont want to deal with a body swap. i can axle swap all day long. a body swap will end up being a year down resto. turn into ten years cause im in over my head. been there done that lol.
baby steps.

and please, send me some pics of those caps. im very interested.

I'll be watching this one..I have a soft spot for longsteps. Sounds like yours will be built a lot like my old 69 K/30 ...400 small block, TH400 NP 205, 14 bolt rear 4.56 gears with a Detroit locker, Dana 60 front with a Trac Loc and 9.00 x 16 directionals, I sure miss the old girl!

Re: 67 chevrolet c20 stepside questions.

The bed looks like it's off a '55 to early '57, the 7.5 foot long bed because the bed doesn't go very far past the rear fenders. Mid '57 Chevy changed to an 8 foot long bed and all of it was behind the rear fenders. I say this because it looks just the long step on my early '57 3200
