Putting a heater unit in a 58
Hey guys I recently procured a very nice 58 short step apache. Truck was born in and never left California so it doesnt have a heater. I live in NY, so Id like to have some heat! Tell me, how much of a pain in the a$$ will it be to install a heater in one of these trucks? I see classic parts has some kind of aftermarket complete heater unit for teh 55-59 trucks. Anyone have any experience with this? Any input would be very appreciated.

your best bet is to check ebay or swap meets for a heater - they are not at all difficult to install - if you can find a deluxe model - that is a nice unit - my 57 has one and it works really well . the standard heater works well also check around on the forum - there might be someone who has an extra one or selling one - make sure you get both pieces - heater core box and the blower motot assembly. also you will need the control unit that goes in the dash w/ cables - sounds like alot but it really is not difficult at all . |

i bought a 59 panel truck out of california that never had a heater in it.
a stock heater will bolt right in, the holes and mounts are in the firewall i have a stock heater for sale in the parts section that i pulled from my 58 the connections are: water in/out and 12v on/off for the fan defrost or floor has a lever on the front of the heater you will also need the defrost hoses and adapters that bolt under your windsheild this is what the stock basic heater looks like
