How many of these trucks.....
do you have in your neighborhood??
I know of 10 of these trucks within about a 3/4 mile radius from me. The highest concentration is right on my own street (3, including mine), and one street over there are 4!! The other 3 are more scattered. But I thought that was a pretty high number in a relatively small area. Again, these are just the ones I know about for sure...there could be more. I know they're not making anymore more of 'em, but they aren't exactly rare around here. On a side note, there is a commercial running right now for Honda cars that has a partial view of one of our trucks in it. Looks like a landscaper/yard maintenance truck. You only get to see the left rear side of bed/wheel well, and maybe the aft end, sans the tailgate IIRC..... |

Re: How many of these trucks.....
Not many around me. I have the only one that I know of around my neighborhood. See a few at the car shows but not an abundance of them by any means.

Re: How many of these trucks.....
Not much of anything around here! And it's getting worse by the day.
I'm amazed when I see something old come in at the junkyards because I really don't know where they find them at. Mini vans and SUV's we have by the bunches.

Re: How many of these trucks.....
There are several where I live but what I find interesting is the lack of Fords from the same era. I don't know if that makes the fords rare or they all simply rusted away years ago.

Re: How many of these trucks.....
Pretty common in my area, but I live right out side of an Army base. There are 2 with in about 60ft each other. My neighbor has a 68 long bed, and I have my 69 short bed. We live on the corner of the street, so they are right around the corner from each other. When I need the space in the driveway, mine finds it home right next to his. About a block down the street and around the corner, there is another. So, I know of three with in about a block of each other. There are 2 others that I know of that live somewhere in my portion of the town. All in all, I think there is 5 in a 3/4 to mile radius of each other.

Re: How many of these trucks.....
Lol... None of them Fords you mention around my side of town. Though, the ones I do see around, there is an abundance of these still being driving around seem to have less rust than the Chevy's and GMC's of the same year's. Most of these are unrestored farm trucks or running hobby trucks. My first truck was a 72 Ford SWB that spent it's whole life on the salt roads of Missouri. Not a lick of rust on it. I am a GM fan thru and thru, and it amazes me to see some of the differences in how the body's of these trucks held up differently and better in some cases between the 2 brands. I have no shame in saying my Missouri driven Ford had better body compared to my Texas driven GMC. The PO of my GMC said he was the third owner of it, the rest had been Mid-Texas owners. The picture of the GMC I seen on his wall showed a ruff Mid-Texas living.

Re: How many of these trucks.....
In my case the issue is I live in a fairly remote area and, unlike slikside, there's very little within 3/4 mile of my house! However, in my yard, there are 3 and in my friend's yard there are 3 more. Within about 10 miles there are quite a number of these trucks! We regularly see everything from daily work trucks to show quality '67 - '72 Chevy and GMC trucks on the road. As was mentioned (AirSpeed), there are far more GM products than F#*!s of the same era. I do know, however, of a couple of F#*! fans with some nice looking trucks of approximately the same era.

Re: How many of these trucks.....
Not sure if I was or not. Maybe the owners worked them less, or the metal was a little thicker...lol That era seemed not to rust as much as later models that they made. I don't knock on a certain brand, though I do have my favorite. If I wouldn't have been young and dumb when I had that truck, I would have it sitting a long side my GMC. Paid $300 for it, sold it to buy a 81 3/4ton Chevy. I think it would have looked pretty sweet having two rival brands of the same era sitting side by side. Or nose to nose at a car show...lol
There is definitely a higher concentration of 67-72 GM truck's though. Higher demand for GM's, so more was produced. Or at least that is my belief.

Re: How many of these trucks.....
Some times I worry I am going to wake up and find my truck pushed a few blocks away getting chopped up by one of the neighbors! lol
In my neighborhood alone I have counted over a dozen 67-72's in varying degrees of restoration, seems to me where I live everyone's got a "project" in their back yard or alley 90% of them are Chevy trucks/cars

Re: How many of these trucks.....
There's 5 in my block here in Amarillo (that I know of). My 71 GMC 4x4 long, a 70 2wd shorty about 6 houses down (Super clean), another 71 Chevy 3/4 ton 2wd long around the corner, and down some more there's another 71 or 72 2wd long backed in the driveway and sits there with wheels unbloted and falling off one jackstand. I want to tell them to hand me the keys and title if they can't take better care of it! Then the other direction from those two, there's a 69/70 short step 2wd parked on the street usually. And of course I see more driving around. There's another 71/72 that passes by a lot.

And heck ya, that would be totally cool to have one nose to nose with our GMC/chevy's at a show. Most would be really surprised, I think, to find they shared the same owner........Yes, if we only knew then, what we know now. Quote:

Re: How many of these trucks.....
That actually might just have to be my next project so I can do that...lol Of course I might have to Chevy power it...lol But that might spoil the whole idea of having them nose to nose. One project at a time, don't think the wife would be too happy with another. She tolerates the one. She married a mechanic with an obsession, she new what she was getting herself into...lol

Re: How many of these trucks.....
Fords from this same era rusted out long ago, from what I've observed. Years ago I noticed mist sat lower in the back of the cab/front of bed, that at both ends. Then there's that nasty seam down the side of the bed that rusted out.

Re: How many of these trucks.....
this thread cracks me up...I thought I was alone in this. I JUST moved to a new house not too long ago, so I'm not completely familiar with the area, but I noticed 2 c10s immediately, and just the other day I saw another, they just keep poppin up! this is within 3 or 4 blocks.
