Got a picture of it? How many bolts are on the cover?

12 bolt.

You'll need to pull the cover to be certain what ratio. Or do the tire spin while rear is jacked up and count how many times the driveline turns. It'll get ya close.

So if I need a seal or something I tell the parts store I have a 12 bolt rear end?

Yes on the seal...But verify which rear end you have, count the number of bolts on the plate...I know I have a 10bolt in my '72...but there are 2 different 10bolts(car and truck) and can be clearly identified by the housing. If you are unsure on how they look or what you are looking for just google it or look in the front of the LMC catalog(pretty helpful info in the front couple pages)

This should get you in the right place.

Re: rear end I'D help

I'm betting if you have a 10 bolt under that '72, it was swapped in. I don't think any of these trucks(67-72) rolled off the line with 10 bolts under them. I could be wrong...

But to the OP... yes, you will need to check to see what you have in case something was swapped out.

Re: rear end I'D help

The 12 bolt aka 3500lb axle was the standard 1967 C10 rear axle with 3.73 gears. 3.07 and 4.11 were also available depending on transmission specified.

My c20 has a 10 bolt, but it is not a Dana 10 bolt, it is an Eaton 10 bolt, the Eaton 10 bolt is comparable to a Dana 14 bolt. The Eaton is VERY sturdy, just not as easy to find parts for as the 14 bolt

Re: rear end I'D help

Under a C20... an Eaton (not an Eaton 10 bolt)... sure. But under a C10... 12-bolt.

If it's a Dana... it's a Dana 60. Not a Dana 10 bolt.

Re: rear end I'D help

10-bolts & 12-bolts,as well as HO52s (with 10-bolt covers) all have Eaton differentials and are referred to as "Corporate" rears. The alternate rear offered was a Dana 44 in 1/2 tons and Dana 60 in 3/4 tons and a rare few 1/2 tons w/6-lugs. The later (73-up) 14-bolt rear is also a Corporate rear, not a Dana.
