Hey everybody,

I was wondering how hard it would be to go from a manual choke to an electric choke. I'm looking at switching to a smaller carb as I have a edelbrock 750 which is just to much for my engine currently. Some of the edlebrock 600's i've been looking at have electric chokes.

should be easy all you need is ignition power wire to power it when the key is on

Too easy. You just need a 12v source that's on when the ignition is on.

I guess the next question is how hard is it to add a 12v source?

It's literally as simple as finding a wire that's on only when the ignition is on and running a splice from there to the choke coil.

If you go to the fuse block, there's a terminal marked IGN. You can run a wire from there if there's not something closer under the hood.

If the carb has a manual choke & you want to change to electric, Edelbrock has a kit to change it over.

I would suggest looking at the Edelbrock AVS carbs. They are a 650 CFM carb and fit the needs of a truck much better than the 600 does.

I have a 600 CFM Edelbrock I converted over to electric choke sitting on my engine right now. If I was home I would pull it off and send it to you for a $150 or trade for your 750. I already have a 650 I bought for replacement. But I plan on building the engine up a hair more... If you don't do it before till around the end of January, keep me in mind.

Right now I'm just getting an idea on the conversion and I still have to find a carb. I will you in mind GMCJOE as I'm not sure when I will be doing this. I might get the conversion kit now and that way in the future I can just switch out the carb.

I do just the opposite. I buy electric choke carbs and convert them to manual.

I have an electric choke on a quadrajet and I am considering converting to manual choke. I can never seem to get the electric choke to work to my liking. In my 67 GMC with 6 cyl I have a manual choke that works excellent and I really like it. You could purchase and install a kit to convert and if it does not work good for you then you could go back to manual choke. Good luck.
