Chucks 72 Cheyenne Custom Camper

I recently got a 72 Cheyenne Custom Camper. It has a big block, power steering, power brakes, air conditioning but it missing components, turbo 400 trans, tilt column, side tool box,
it has some rust issues like inner and outer rockers, mostly inner damage, cab corners, some floor and supports need replaced. That will have to wait for now. It doesn't have exhaust on it right now and its super loud. It is still on the trailer and when I get the paper work in my name I'll pull it to a muffler shop.

Things that I want to do to it to make it my work truck/hauler-
new exhaustDONE!
replace water neck gasket DONE!
get spark plug heat shields
put a class III hitch on itDONE!
get the wiring right for the trailer to be hooked upDONE!
get a brake controller for ithave but not installed
redo the tranny cooling -currently has an external cooler where the a/c condenser should beDONE!
replace bumper -DONE!
install underdash lightsDONE!
install glovebox lightDONE!
redo or rework the spare tire holderDONE!
repair leaks-ps gearbox, tranny pan etc.DONE!

Later down the road things I would like to do
add A/C vintage air
put on 4 matching tires
change dist. to electronic ignition
take off the extra gas tank
replace the mirrors with a stainless pairDONE!
repair the rust
replace the front bumper and grilleDONE!
put trim on the top of the tailgate thats missinghave but not installed
replace shocks

heres some pics

Re: Chucks 72 Cheyenne Custom Camper

I took the old home made bumper off. I had to cut the outer part off since it was bolted and welded on. I couldn't get to the welds with my grinder with the outer section on.

I got the bumper and truck from Tim (ozark tim). I painted the rear of the bumper and bolted it on. Then painted the outside of it. Its a heavy duty bumper but I still want a class III hitch that attaches to the frame.

Re: Chucks 72 Cheyenne Custom Camper

I painted the black on the 400 emblems too. and the black around the marker lights.
I also cleaned the rust off of the super long lug nuts and the center caps. It looks okay. I have two matching tires on the rear and two different ones on the front. I like the tire on the pass. side front. Its a BF Goodrich. They're all the same size but they look like their not. Go figure.

Re: Chucks 72 Cheyenne Custom Camper

i put some wood grain on some of the lower molding. I will have to do the drivers side as it is a lot worse than the passenger side.

Re: Chucks 72 Cheyenne Custom Camper

Thanks Rus, I didn't get to do anything on the 68. I took some stuff to the shed and cleaned up a little downstairs and yard work so maybe I can do a little on it tomorrow. I do need to change the gasket on the water neck soon though. Its leaking. I'll get one of those that I put on the 68.

Now that I have the bumper on, I will have the exhaust dumped on both sides so I have room to put the hitch on the frame. I wish I had one and could get it on before I take it to the muffler shop but oh well.

Re: Chucks 72 Cheyenne Custom Camper

dually, I don't think I could go much slower on either. I'm going slow on both. I did pick up a waterneck gasket for it. I may get it off the trailer and clean a little on it.

low Elco, thats right its going to be my tow pig mule or whatever lol. And Thanks! the a/c, It's missing the evap, lines, compressor, brackets, and condenser. Ive put money into the old systems and it was always disappointing. Not again.

Re: Chucks 72 Cheyenne Custom Camper

BTW, Hopkins mfg (hoppy) makes a plug-in setup for the trailer wiring. Works great, have one on both our old trucks.
