Driver and passenger windows hard to crank up and down

They go up and down, but they are really hard to crank. Almost like they are rusted and dusty down in the track or something. Is this fairly common? How do I fix it?

Thanks

take off the inner handels and door panels and spray the crap out of any movin parts inside the doors is a common fix for 40 year old movin parts that have never seen any love

Sounds good. Thanks. Looks like they sell a tool to take the door panel apart. Is this really necessary? What's the process of taking the door apart?

Thanks

They likely will need a good cleaning and lubrication. The run channels are also suspect. You will need to pull the inner panels and look about. Clear out the drain holes in the bottom of the door as well. As to the "how to" here is a thread to look at. In it we have identified some publications that every owner should have.

BTW... Welcome to the Board! That is a nice looking truck and should be a great starting project.

Yes the make panel removers, for the c-clips especially. Very easy to take off the panels. Use something like a graphite lube that stays wet and doesn't dry out like WD-40 and it will help.

Thanks! I made a new friend too, with the guy that sold me the vehicle. Vietnam vet. He dropped in today because he found another ignition key to the truck. We made him coffee, eggs and bacon, and had a nice time talking. I showed him this forum on the iPad at the kitchen table.

Btw, nice Huskey you've got. We have a 2 year old Siberian. Best dog ever.

You must be getting good at searching the site! Did you end up at my web page? Huskies are great dogs but they are not the "THE" dog for everyone. For every ten people that ask me about a Husky only two will be even close to knowing what to expect.

While you are in there check the window regulator and make sure all your rollers are still there.

Yeah, I've been searching the site a lot. It's been a little frustrating, because I registered several days ago, but it took them until today to finally verify my account so I can post.

I haven't seen your site, but I'll check it out. Saw your avatar. They can be obstinate, but they really are smart and beautiful animals. They just live to have fun.

Funny I'd forgotten Randy the avitar puppy. He is a little bigger now (imagine that) here with the rest of my "boys" cooling down after an arm stretching walk.

Not to hijack -- last year we rescued a 60# female husky mix to keep our male hybrid company. Sweet little thing, stubborn as a mule, and able to scale a 6' board fence.

Hey the OP started this sub thread... Gotta love Huskies. One of my girls will stand up on top of her rounded igloo on her hind legs like a meerkat. Problem is she won't allow me to "see" her doing it, so no pictures ... yet.

Rollers, yes I had forgotten all about them. Generally I like PB Blaster for freeing crusty stuff. For lubrication the best and fewest comebacks for me have been using heavy silicon brake caliper bolt lube. Use quality stuff like 3M's in a can.

Nice dogs! So, we both like Huskey's and 67-72 pickups. Do you like petite redhead women too? Lol.

One of my windows was hard to roll up. Easy to roll down. I found out that the glass was to thick. Some trucks must have thicker glass. I put a used thin glass in it and it rolls up real easy.

Re: Driver and passenger windows hard to crank up and down

When i got my truck, my windows were almost impossible to roll up and down with one hand. Also my passenger door was very very hard to lock or unlock from the inside. I took off the door panels, rolled up the windows and sprayed the crap out of them on the inside with WD-40. After a few minutes of soaking they were all working smooth! The next day I went in with some white lithium grease spray and lubed them up. Now everything works smooth as silk. Easy fix.

That's great to hear! So, how do I get the handles off without the special tool?

Re: Driver and passenger windows hard to crank up and down

Just about everyone sells the tool in some form or another. Its easiest to have one but... if you must, a pair of little screwdrivers or even a rag can be used to push/pull the ends of the clip. The clip is about three quarters of a circle with a pair of ears. Pushing the ears opens the clip allowing it to release the regulator shaft and the handle. Loose part here that will fly off!

I fought those little clips with screwdrivers & pliers (never knew about using a rag at the time), ruined some clips and lost others. Finally bought a tool like Tim posted above for just a few bucks, some of the best money I ever spent!

That $5 tool will save you a lot of headaches trust me. Turned a 20 min job into 20 seconds.

I use mine all the time. That tool is priceless. Two seconds and you are done.

Some door designs are nearly impossible to get the clips off without using the tool too.
