88 GMC TC front output flange
Does anyone know what size socket the nut on the front driveshaft output flange on a 1988 GMC 1/2 ton, NP208, suburban takes? I need to pick up a socket tonite afterwork so I can pull the driveshaft and flange to replace the seal. Thanks.

socket size
1 1/8 inch socket in case you guys ever want to know. I went and bought four sockets, thinking one would be the right size. I had not torn the vehicle apart to see what size I needed so it was a shot in the dark. I guessed right. Popped in the new seal and back on the road. How come none of you 4x4 guys out there knew the answer to this question anyway?

torque spec
Torque specs for the pinion preload? Depends on whether you are just re-using existing bearings or if it is an overhaul using new bearings and crush sleeve. I cant remember off hand what the torque is for new. If I am just replacing a pinion seal for example, I always mark the location of the nut in relation to the shaft, count the number of threads (or turns of the nut) that are showing and try to get that nut back exactly the same place. I will check my book when I get home.
