Building my Wood bed off site.

So I will be building my wood cab off site from where my truck is. Then bring my truck to it. Its a 68 lwb, it originally had a steel floor on it but i'm converting it to wood. How do i know where the cross sills go if i don't have my frame as a reference. Also my 72" reinforcement strip is rotten has anyone made their own or should i buy new ?

I would order the cross sills. If you get the bolt holes wrong making them....

As far as the cam washer\bolts, finding the location off site will be hard.

Unless somebody knows a site that shows this, about the only way I see is to lay out the cross sills on your frame, bring the two boards to the frame location, drill, then finish them.

Re: Building my Wood bed off site.

I have the wood and its pre drilled. I guess what im asking is at what hole on the bed side do each cross sill sit under. Example, 10th hole down for the first cross sill. Do keep in mind i have a Long wheel base bed.

Re: Building my Wood bed off site.

The The first tall cross sill goes at 3-1/2" back from the front panel of the bed. The second cross sill goes at 14-3/4" back. The third cross member is the 72" long smaller one. This is called a reinforcement strip. This one is placed at the front of the wheel house approximately 21-3/4" back from the bed front. The rear of the wheel house gets the third tall cross sill. The second small reinforcement is located between the wheel house area approiximately 48-1/8" from the front panel.

This is what I'm looking for but in the Long bed Version !

Re: Building my Wood bed off site.

LMC has an exploded view of sorts if that helps at all.. Keep in mind they may have a brace where none existed stock (they did that with the rear brace on the stepside)
