How much is scrap metal from these trucks going for?

I've got an extra tank, and a rear bumper I want to remove. Rather than just throwing them away, I'm curious what you think I could get for them at one of those metal scrap places? Is it even worth the time?

i'd be willing to be SOMEone would buy that bed tank - perfect for a truck with a camper that didn't come with original aux tanks.

I'm guessing it would need a little work, since the cap is missing, so there's probably crap inside that'll need to be cleaned out.

Yep, figured the inside needed cleaning - Eastwood and a few other sell a kit that allow you to clean em pretty easily. What I DID forget, though, is that it would be difficult to ship - anything that held gas that's not GFE'ed or something like that would be a challenge - so, perhaps limited buyer pool if local only, but might be worth a try. Understand it's kind of a pain, probably just want to get rid of it and see if you can get at least a few bucks - and that's a good idea. Scrap might be the best choice, even if price is down right now.

Thanks guys. Boy, the prices seem like they are pretty low right now. I've heard stories in the past of guys stealing manhole covers. It'd also take a hell of a lot of tin cans to equal the weight of this tank

There's a scrap buying yard near me, the dad gum prices go up and down like crazy. A friend of mine gets a lot of late model cars to scrap, he calls ahead to see that days price. It's usually anywhere from $5.00 to $11.00 per 100 pounds.

thank goodness it is down i'm tired of some people around here (in my town certain people in mind) scraping good stuff, even though i sell it, but its not worth much for anything if I'm scraping it.

You could always post a "free to a good home" ad on the board. Might even get to meet a local board member that way. Not sure anyone will want the in bed tank but its worth a try. The bumper might have some value but "free" makes it worth the gas to more people.

IIRC You do not need to be a subscriber for a free ad.

alot of people who really don't care about much, other than $ would much sooner get a buck scrapping something which could be useful to someone else, than to give it away. If you keep your eyes open, you'll notice that those are the same people who jump right up, and grab any other freebies offered....whether they need them or not.
