What paint codes are these?

This is a pic of my old 82 chevy silverado. I would like to know the paint codes for the blue, and the silver/grey/silvery grey that came on the truck. I was hoping that someone here was already familiar with this paint scheme and remembered the codes. I tried looking them up myself, but for some reason there just isn't any way to tell because they have too many colors that year that are too close together. They have several silvers and greys and greyish silvers. I'm thinking that the blue is the only dark blue they had that year, but I can't be sure.

Re: What paint codes are these?

I'd have to go with Medium Blue 23U, with a light Silver Metallic 17L lower.

I highlighted the code 30 Nordic blue but changed my mind when I saw it was metallic; I don't believe the blue you've pictured is metallic.

Re: What paint codes are these?

Do you still have the rpo codes in your glove box? The lower ones tell you the color codes.

Mine: WA-L8624 (lower) U8624 (upper)
White

Re: What paint codes are these?

Naw I wish I did but I no longer own the truck. Sold it for some dumb reason lol. But now I want to get my 87 painted that same color. But as for the blue being metallic, I don't know. Only thing I can say is keep in mind that is the original paint from 1982. That pic was taken in 2008 so it had plenty of time fade out. In fact the blue was faded IIRC. So my guess is, even if I can come up with the paint code, it will likely look darker once its sprayed onto my current truck. Not sure I really want that. I'd kind of like it to appear slightly faded, as it does in that pic.

For the blue? It always looked to me like the top was silver and the bottom was grey. Maybe with a little splash of silver mixed in but still a grey. I don't know if they even did that though.

I don't see a code 29 on the chart. That chart is the available paint codes in 1982.

No; they did not do that. The silver on top will be the same color as the silver on the bottom (all sprayed at the same time).

Yup Keith, looks like they did. I painted so many of these trucks in the 90,s I used to know all the codes by heart, now i barely remember my name....lol

Re: What paint codes are these?

Hmph. I agree - sure looks like the code 29; definitely not the code 23 that I mentioned (which is obviously too light).

The only problem is that it's not on the chart. That would lead me to believe it wasn't available, except that it sounds like you've painted more than one that color.

Certainly looks like the color availability chart is wrong...which is, uh, kinda bad

Update1: I checked the charts on either side of 1982 and the 1983 chart does, in fact, show code 29 as available "Midnight blue".

Update2: The two tone scheme shown, with the silver roof and body lower, is known as RPO ZY4.

Re: What paint codes are these?

Hmm. Well now comes the hard part I guess. As you can see, that midnight blue on the truck in the pic is quite faded out. It looks nothing like the paint chip on the chart. The one on the chart looks almost black. How could I get my new blue paint job to look more like the truck in the pic?

I don't want it to be so dark. As for the bottom I'm guessing that would be #14? Looks pretty close if you take fading into account.

Re: What paint codes are these?

What do yall think the blue is on that chart? 23, or perhaps 27? I'm having a hard time finding the right blue. It wasn't the "dark blue" they had back then cause I've seen that on vehicles before and its all but black.

Re: What paint codes are these?

Actually the code 29 looks like the blue in the picture, the one on the color chart is way too dark. This is my truck, it was originally code 29 and I painted it a Dodge color cuz I wanted metallic but I did not paint the interior and nobody has ever noticed it.

Re: What paint codes are these?

I can see that being the color. After all those years, finally faded out.

Would they have paired that with a greyish sliver though? I just don't know.

Re: What paint codes are these?

Yes I painted quite a few of them that were code 29 with the silver . I'm pretty sure the silver that was used most was code 17 but my memory is not as good as it used to be. My buddies truck was originally that blue and silver , I will double check on the code next time i see him.

Re: What paint codes are these?

what about code 49? jadestone poly? looks to me that would mybe be a better match than the code 29 even after all those years of fade, the ones ive seen still look much darker

unless thats actually a green which according to google images it may be, but looking at the chip it sure looks like it to me

Re: What paint codes are these?

Here's jadestone poly when its all over a car. A little too green, I'm afraid.
